Everyday

words to celebrate
everyday is amazing,
white pink orchids bloom

~0~0

a maple leaf buds
on this grey winter morning,
every day is spring

~0~0

the leaf falls today,
like everyday, but I see
blue butterfly wings

~ My favorite poetry form is couplet ~

I am fragile glass
in summer storm

I am torn wing
in autumn wind

I am folded page
in winter snow

I am blushing pink
in spring's ardent arms

I am everyday
beautiful in your eyes.

Gate to Spring

open gate to spring,
throw out the sunflower seeds,
grey pigeons hover

grey pigeons hover
 muddy stones and barren wells,
winter frost melting

winter frost melting
locked windows and bolted doors,
open gate to spring

Joy of giving

giving the last coin
from torn and dirty pockets,
a turtle dove sings

a turtle dove sings
above old house, melody
sweet as red cheeries

sweet as red cheeries
are kind words from poor widow,
giving the last coin

To dance

foot pointing outward,
chin facing crowd, bold as sun
rising from the clouds

arms curling in step,
straight as her back, she pauses
arrow poised to fly

Dedication

her gentle hands, touch
children, the sick and dying,
bold dedication

her calming words, strong
call to love and forgiveness,
my rosary beads

lifting hearts to God,
limbs to carry the weak, strong

Imagination

an old crumbling house,
my history, turning page,
a brown eagle soars

~0~0

searching for the spark
amidst black and decay, breathe
green trees in your hands

tattered walls in rooms,
spinning tales of love and loss,
my pen is busy

Afar

when i pass this way of the road
my gaze falls on the faraway lines
trees hugging the mountain sides
shrubs leaning towards break of dawn

i sometimes cannot catch when
winter frost clouds my car mirrors,
numbing my hands as i break thin ice
into crystals, my red mittens dewy wet

i grip my car wheel tightly, speeding fast
urban grey road huddled with cars and trucks
in all makes and sizes, along the freeway
humming engines, like working ants in

the trail i see zigzagging up the steps,
going here, marching to the city radio
pulsing pop music and road updates,
all noise and pollution to keep us busy,

yet as the sun unravels, i gaze afar
and wonder how long will i keep on
driving until i can touch your soft leaves
and breathe in your fresh pine scent

Famine

ethereal thoughts
float away up to the sky,
as my stomach growls

~0~0

a slice of stale bread,
corn grain is manna to eyes,
red-rimmed with ash sands

~0~0

vulture eyes follow
child too weak to walk, snapshots
torturing mind's peace

Kevin Carter, is a Pulitzer-prize winning South African photojournalist. His winning photo shows a heart-breaking scene of a starving child collapsed on the ground, struggling to get to a food center during a famine in the Sudan in 1993. In the background, a vulture stalks the emaciated child.
Carter was part of a group of four fearless photojournalists known as the “Bang Bang Club” who traveled throughout South Africa capturing the atrocities committed during apartheid.
Haunted by the horrific images from Sudan, Carter committed suicide in 1994 soon after receiving the award.

First part of my haiku relates to the prompt of Imaginary Garden with Real Toads - Ethereal

Waiting

she waits with her child
beside green walled window, lost
as a stray kitten

~0~0

she waits for the day
green paint of her wall, splashes
dusty ground she walks

Innocence

Young children should be protected and sheltered against the evils and greed of men and women.  As much as possible, they should sleep peacefully in the comfort and love of their family and home.  Though I understand that poverty and ignorance may push poor  parents to sell or make them work in sweat shops or prostitution, I believe it is a sin to take away their innocence, and let them carry the worldly burdens of their family at a tender age.

eyelids flutter closed,
dreaming of holding the world,
white moonflower blooms

is unpaved with stones and sticks,
bring your smile and thirst
