empty cup, gnawing 
rumbling stomach, hands dirty
black volcanic ash

dirty brown cardboard, 
chair, bed and table, pieces

    The last line of "broken furniture" is powerful - suggesting that all the usual elements of living are broken in these little ones' lives!

    I like the suggestion that the 'dirty brown cardboard' acts as the table, bed, and chair for these unfortunate boys. Good description.

    this is def evocative for me...i have made it a point to spend time with the homeless for years now...just to be among them and hear their stories and lend a meal or an ear.
