Helianthus annuus

you shape my face
by light
you spice my lips
of storms

my stem reaches to sky
wrinkling gradient of darkness
to brightest shades

you fill my cheeks
of seeds & quills in
perfect symmetry & florets

in swirling harmony-
a flower, cluster of flowers, crown
of flowering spirals, bouquets of sun-

shine
for you-

s p a c e s

you keep filling pages
with words
gridlines
& quotes

i see the slant of setting sun on winterfrost
and small birds spiralling out
at slightest sound

time is slow burn
stretching unscarfing in
quietude of evenings

here are spaces within me
that are
                       just

February

The bones are still canvas
knuckled & chaffed dry by winter chill

Not a leaf, not a petal tarries by
only the roots hidden deep, knits

the pattern of light & shadows
the memories of fullness of moon

as seeds dream of sweetest fruits
and vines drape their fingertips on empty husks

I trace the chords of
maddening clouds & tumult of dying sun

There's a grumble of hysteria underground
I can't wait to scent the delirium of first blooming
