The walk

he   walked  backward,  while    i
walked  forward,   walk(ing)   afar,   looked
back,  i   checked  his   side(ways),
while    barely  keeping  straight      face
i    noticed   his  face  straight (too)

A 5 x 5 square poem, which can be also be read up and down.

he                  walked         backward,      while           i
walked           forward,       walk(ing)        afar,           looked
back              i                   glance(d)        his              side(ways),
while             barely           holding           straight       face
i                    noticed         his                 face            straight (too)

Black or White

                                                                      Touch of Evil

In his rumpled cigar chomped suit, Orson stares down at his prey's brown eyes.

Black or White ?  he rasped in his gravel voice.

As he waits, his hand caresses the gun like a lit dynamite.

The victim's badge is torn,  shoes worn down from many fistfights,
weary gladiator in the midst of the malaria-infested city.

White

Sneering like a crowned vulture king, Orson cocks his gun in slow motion. Plump
fingers prime for the shot at the head.   His justice, his rules.

*firing shots*

Black

When we play God,  we also dance with the Devil.

From my window

clear glass window stoops over city's freeway
where cars and trucks rumble and sprint like ants
on brown veined leaves, underneath summer sky

whistles and tires drum the roads like bees gathering
honey before the butterfly net catches its golden tails,
scaring small black birds perched on the maple tree

nearby the flock of geese amble between parked cars
like a solemn procession for the saints or the brown cross,
babies following the father robed in white and grey

above maze of roads, she comes to peek at my window,
checking the traffic she says in her soft wistful voice,
but always craning to see her cottage, a dot in the blue lake

her face is apple stained with divorce papers and struggles
of everyday cares, but her eyes twinkle in a merry dance,
stomach full of laughter,  as she thinks of retiring in 7 years

my eye catches the shade of the day,  bright cantaloupes,
ripe mangoes sliced sweet and plump, framing office cube,
bare of personal touches,  clearly a pit stop in my book of travels

i don't see a white cottage by the lake, but the arms of sun
growing longer, brighter in orange twilight.   a thunderstorm
is coming tonight but for now, i like the view from my chair

The tree

                                                                              Puddle, 1952, M. C. Escher

There is a silent forest beneath
my road, soft with water, hard with oil

Peering to see the full moon
shining at the edge, halfway across the sea

You waited for me to cross the sky,
with your lantern eyes and wrinkled hands

Glancing back, your words carried me
when my legs were puddle frail in the storm

your gnarled limbs and deep roots reach
for me, and lifts me high from brown soil

You are the tree that carries me, still
in my journey of many roads, many seasons

now as your leaves fall slowly like gentle rain,
i carry the seeds of your forest in my hands

                                                                          always

Happy Father's Day !!!

Celebrate today

i walk in the warm breeze of orange sunset
the roots of the maple tree follow my trail
over the serene park and green fields

the long awaited summer is finally here
young children playing, carefree as the wind
teens ambling in groups, stretching new wings

June is a milestone, not just for school close,
but its also my dad and folk's anniversary month
and the start of our new life in this country,
7 years ago

crossroads, small and big, define us
and bring us to unexpected journeys and challenges
we sometimes don't fully understand

like seeing the half empty glass,
until we learn to trust and appreciate
how far we have come, not just physically
(like my 13 year daughter who is now as tall as me)
but also emotionally and spiritually

when we see the beauty in the everyday
when we carry with grace the simple tasks
when we take another step forward, then another
when we forgive and accept our limitations

today is a good day to celebrate
all the good things

Rainy day

the sun rises
behind white splattered clouds
like dry sands etched on beach sky

in the pale light
cars and trucks cross the familiar roads
like busy yellow bees in crowded city hive

a cloudy day is the forecast
spring is now wet earth and moist fields
like exploding red roses blooming the garden

it has been year since i planted them,
hardly breathing during winter spell,
but sturdy roots and thorns thrived, faithful to spring

now as rain pelts my car windows
like giant waves rocking boat in the sea,
i think about red roses and thousand seeds on ground

budding, growing, spreading arms to touch the sun

Written for Theme Thursday:  Full Circle :   My red roses are in full bloom.
and Poetry Jam:   Water:   It was really raining hard today.

Abundance

there is loneliness in these quiet streets,
it stretches, unspoken grief to my street,
I pick it up, limped leaf, trampled flower

there is unwanted madness in the air
it pollutes mind hungry for nature's air
I open the windows, spring is outside

Gather blooms, greens, fruits, vegetables today
forgotten garden, new and fresh today
with blessed eyes, the world is abundant

Nourish the land, of grateful seeds and trees,
Harvest is rich, enough for you and me
