birds from chickadees, cardinals & bluejays pecking
for seeds & squirrels scarmbling over fences & trees
& wild bunnies scouting for food
on days when the dark clouds are rolling
& northern wind knocks the flowers of their golden crowns
& fruit trees are bearing hint of autumn with pears growing wild
i gather my paintbrush
& splash a bit of tangerine color at the sides
& dash of marmalade & lilac streaks across the horizon
& liberal dose of blue sky & bubbling clouds
i fold into
paper plane
zipping out of the
window
on days when the dark clouds are rolling
& northern wind knocks the flowers of their golden crowns
& fruit trees are bearing hint of autumn with pears growing wild
i gather my paintbrush
& splash a bit of tangerine color at the sides
& dash of marmalade & lilac streaks across the horizon
& liberal dose of blue sky & bubbling clouds
i fold into
paper plane
zipping out of the
window

That is a great view of the park, Grace. Is that part of a children’s playground I can see? I love the use of colour in this poem and the ending is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOh, such a beautiful poem, Grace. I love the inspiration you gathered from the photo. The descriptions you wrote are absolutely lovely in imagery and so abstract with how you aligned the last stanza. It adds to the artistic feel of the piece, thus making it even more evocative to read. I love this!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kim...creative use of colour in the poem and the ending is especially lovely.
ReplyDeleteHi Grace, that's such a wonderful inviting word painting you've made here. I so like how the poet constructs the view and then with paper plane zips off into the landscape they've created. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteGrace, I really like how you choose to paint over those rolling grey clouds with color. The little critters going about their business lends the peaceful grounding to the view.
ReplyDeleteI love that paper plane of colour. I always think you write as if you are painting.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of sending a beautiful sunset in a paper plane and sending it out the window! This was a beautiful write, Grace. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI love your view which makes you paint with flamboyant colors!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a peaceful scene, the kind that invites drifting beyond the window to mingle with the colours.
ReplyDeleteI love that you have bunnies in addition to the usual city wildlife. A paper airplane seems just the right response.
ReplyDeleteFabulously poetic landscape
ReplyDeleteYour use of the window as both frame and egress is great.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving this, esp the fly-away finish!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you ended this Grace- lovely view!
ReplyDeleteLovely poem. Enjoyed it and the thoughts of art and nature.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a marvellous painting with words. I take it that you really do paint? 👏🏽👏🏽
ReplyDeleteI love the way you have named your paints. Although I am inclined to rural living, you show how nature's beauty is to be found wherever we look for it.
ReplyDeleteWonderful poem and the scenery
ReplyDeleteI love the way you bring the birds and fruit to life. Pretty view too 🙂
ReplyDeleteI love how you describe a photo in words as if you're painting it. Excellent! 💚
