I.
It is not the best weather
Grey skies and winter chill
Dulls my red fancy feathers
Still I go tap dancing, a thrill
II.
Her singing is not too bad
A little off key, she got the keys
Melodic refrains, we are so glad
The choir is humming as bees
III.
It is not the best list process
A seed turns war between want and need
Escalates to what I want to frame
versus what I want to unframe
What I want to remember
versus what I want to forget
On the left side, a grocery list
and a travel wishlist
On the right side, a what-not-to-do list
and a where-not-to-go list
I find myself in a pickle
So, I tie myself to the moon
And rocket launch the first one:
journaling of my day & dreams

I really love those two lists... I think we are all there stuck in the middle between those two lists. maybe in the end just dreaming.
ReplyDeleteThis is exquisitely drawn, Grace! 😍I especially admire this part; "A seed turns war between want and need/Escalates to what I want to frame versus what I want to unframe." Thank you so much for writing to the prompt! ❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteSimultaneously subtle and pointed. When the world flutters in chaos, tying oneself to the moon is a great idea <3
ReplyDeleteYour notes for January resonate with me, Grace. Our weather turned today, from bright and clear to overcast with heavy rain. I’m glad the dulling of your fancy red feathers didn’t stop you from tap dancing! I also like the bee simile in the second stanza. MY favourite lines:
ReplyDelete‘I find myself in a pickle
So, I tie myself to the moon
And rocket launch the first one:
journaling of my day & dreams’.
What a masterful use of litotes in diary form, Grace, just the right touch for the moods expressed, the disparate lists. Thoroughly enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteWow--I especially love the closing lines. Wonderful, Grace!
ReplyDeleteGrace, your litotes-infused poem turns everyday moments into a delightful dance of contrasts. The charming juxtapositions, like tap dancing in not-so-great weather, and the clever resolution to tie yourself to the moon make for an engaging read. Well done!

Very nicely done Grace. I like how you used litote throughout the poem. Sometimes the world out there can be overwhelming!
ReplyDeleteLove these:
ReplyDelete“I find myself in a pickle
So, I tie myself to the moon”
Quite brilliant, Grace!!! I vow to sing and tap dance along with you!!
ReplyDelete"the where not to go list" oh, yeah, I have one of those
ReplyDeleteTwo contrasting lists of opposites...both necessary, I think.
ReplyDeleteI so missed reading your exquisite writing, Grace! This is such a beautiful write, especially the closing lines.
ReplyDeleteAh, the eternal dilemma of choice. I resonate with being in a pickle, and I love this poem Grace.
