let's make a fruit salad
as sweet as a ballad
specially when paired with a flan
so get a large tropical fruit cocktail can
& drain fruits with a strainer from its juice
this can take time like a noose
on a big blanket, but this is key
to make this salad creamy, not soggy peas
in a bowl, combine fruits with all-purpose cream
and sweetened condensed milk (half of your dream)
merrily, you add more color & zest-
mix in peaches, cheeries - fruitfest
how about corn kernels & tapioca pearls
added in, to make your feet twirl & swirl
measure to your stomach's delight,
chill & serve as a dessert, so bright
Note: Our Christmas holiday is not complete without a fruit salad as our cold dessert. There are many variations but the basics remained the same - drained fruit cocktail with cream and sweetened condensed milk. Here is one.

I could never have imagined corn is a desert, but it sounds great...
ReplyDeleteSounds yummy, and just the thing to top off a meal. Loved that opening couplet, Grace, "as sweet as a ballad" indeed.
ReplyDeleteI love fruit salad, Grace, and yours looks delicious! Your rhymes make it sound fun too.

ReplyDeleteI love a fruit salad at Christmas but I've never had one with corn before but it does make sense. Another yummy recipe!
ReplyDeleteWe make fruit salad in the summer with fresh fruit. It's too cold in the winter! Stewed fruit in a crumble suits me better :)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous is Jane btw.
ReplyDeleteSo interesting! A colourful and delicious poem. I felt the joy building especially with this..."how about corn kernels & tapioca pearls
ReplyDeleteadded in, to make your feet twirl & swirl".
Wait Grace! Is it REALLY fruit salad if it's not encased in Jello. Preferably lime Jello.
ReplyDeleteWow Grace thistakes me back to my childhood when condensed milk was a staple food...and the corn kernels are a master stroke... fun rhyming too! Love to you from across the bay/ where I live in cool UK
