i want slow dancing
starbursting in my chest
& filaments of delicate lacework
latching on my ribs
{swoon}
the night spell is mad timbre
of iridescent specks of dotted lights
smooth as ripe velvet plums
swaying
earthly swells
wine color
drumbeats
& taste of wild
crooning clarinet
pour red,
(bubbles of rose champagne)
all over my saxophone
splashing purple & violet hues
my piano fingers are fire-
crackers
all over you
Posted for dVerse Poets Pub - MTB - Synesthesia in music. Sade is one of my favorite singer - classy with that distinct sexy voice. Please join us when the pub doors open at 3pm. Thanks for the visit.
I can never get enough of Sade... I have seen the band live, and she seemed to sing just for me (which I think all the other 10 000 people thought as well)... love the wine you used to color her songs with.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh- I love 'my piano fingers are firecrackers all over you'!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for that blast of Sade! I love her too, but we don’t hear much from her these days. I took Ellen to an open-air gig in London when she was little. What a beautiful poem, Grace – I love the idea of ‘starbursting in my chest’ and ‘iridescent specks of dotted lights / smooth as ripe velvet plums’. Very sensuous.
ReplyDeleteOh you have done this so well, totally captured the essence of this song which is sultry, seductive and full of plum tones, just like your poem!
ReplyDeleteSo utterly sensual.

I swooned myself over those lines. Good god, what a writer you are! Such an amazing poem with colorful, seductive imagery. The entanglement in this dance, you cannot simply look away from. I am blown away, Grace. You are a wonderful, talented writer.
Seduced with color!
ReplyDeleteThis poem strikes sparks!

This was beautifully colorful Grace. Enjoyable to read. Well written.
ReplyDeleteH.O.T! Both of you. And the poetry sizzles, too! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh, how sensual and sultry! I love how you structured your poem.
ReplyDeleteWonderful wordplay, I love how it has latched onto my ribs as well, with the smooth music of Sade I am swaying with you! :)
ReplyDelete"Piano fingers as firecrackers all over you" makes this a hot number, Grace!
ReplyDeleteVery sensational and sensual. Sounds like the with wine is working!

"smooth as ripe velvet plums" - visual, tactile, harmonic.
ReplyDeleteI could read this the rest of today ~~~ however I must begin holiday prep. Sighs all the way 'round.
ReplyDeleteI love all the musical selections we're getting to go along with each poet's words. I can feel those violet tones.
ReplyDeleteOh my, Grace! This is fantastic! You had me with the title and the first line. I was swaying and oohing and then when I got to the last seven lines, I swooned!
