Remembrance

In this box
are my gems

rings and necklaces
of w o r d s
and   w o r d s
unbounded and sloppy
and more  w o r d s
dear from my bosom, knotted
with care

remember me
with kindness
when you see whiff of
flying cotton c u r l

and at night
when you look up and see
pearl of the  m o o n-

i am right here with you

  1. Dang it, Grace. I feel like you wrote this from my throat. I LOVE this piece. Thank you. Especially for these:

    "unbounded and sloppy"
    "dear from my bosom"

... which makes me think of the book I'm reading: Wet Nurse.

  2. This is lovely... actually that cotton made me think of how you take up each gem from it's nest of cotton, and those words come back. A true treasure.

  3. So beautiful, Grace. I love the idea of rings and necklaces made of words, and that pearl of moonlight keeps the gem theme going and finishes it wonderfully.

What a wonderful assertion for such a box of memories.

  9. I love this box of memories. What better tokens to leave of a writer, but words!

  10. And what a special box you have displayed for us, Grace.

  11. Words are both keepsake and gift.

  12. Words are a treasured remembrance...love that "pearl of a moon"!

  13. Yes, this is so sweetly done. The threads of remembrance -- words, curls, moonlight -- all assemble in this poem, this box.

  14. Grace please forgive me if you have already received a comment. For some reason I don’t get clear feedback from this interface and the words I receive suggest failure to transmit.
In response to your poem: words are treasured mementos and I like how your poem is in the voice of the giver, the one being remembered...the poem itself like pearls.

  15. Lovely, Grace-- words strung together like jewels and worn as a memory.

  17. 'Words dear from my bosom and knotted with care' - an image that touches the heart. Beautiful, Grace.

  18. My most treasured are certainly not the most expensive - the long elephant necklace my son chose for me when he was a toddler (I always travel with it beneath my shirt), the jewelry my adult daughter has made for me (she is a great artist) and the little honey bee my husband got me as I am Queen Bee :) forget the diamonds - seriously :)

  20. Especially "more w o r d s
    dear from my bosom, knotted
    with care"
Liked the whole idea of the box of gems including sloppy and not so sloppy words, words as treasures.

  21. This made me think of how simple keepsakes and 'treasures' can conjure forth a memory, which falls into words - and the intermingling of all that. Some wonderful evocative images in this beautifully constructed piece.
