Sands of our time

We marveled at the Grand Canyon spectacular views.   Against the massive giant rocks and lime stones, we are but a grain in the wind, a heartbeat in the sands.   Yet, we have come here in Las Vegas to reconnect and cement our youthful school days.    Like the river, some of us have aged well, swimming in the trials of our journeys.   For some of us who have drowned in the scars of past abuse, we gather strength, filling our empty hearts with rivers of love.  And finally, we recalled our 8 school friends who have gone to another journey. Through tears and laughter, we danced and sang the nights away.    We are lucky to have this friendship:   a river in sea of moving sands.   Nourishing our bond in this short window of time - a sisterhood to cherish.

  1. What a marvelous parallels between your reunion and the river's sand...and how timely what you capture from the reconnecting... I have lost contact with all those people from the past (and some I would prefer not to meet again)... but yet so much change you can learn from such a re-connection.

  2. OH, I like this! Such a tribute to friendship and change. And the haiku is perfection. Indeed, we are bits of sand in the river of life, being moved about as the river flows.

  4. It's wonderful to have those strong bonds with others from our past. Mostly mine are from my neighborhood when growing up. I love how you intertwine the Grand Canyon and its massive presence into the presence with your friends.

  5. I wish I had ties with old friends as you mention but that's one of the downfalls of living so far away from family.

  12. Beautifully written. The ever present river meant in so many ways here. Aging is indeed a journey and we are privileged when we can have reunions with old friends who are on the same journey, in perhaps a different place, but in that same river of time. I really enjoyed this. And the haiku is beautiful!
