Grandmother

i could paint you
dainty as lavender
and your cheeks
pearled pink peony

but it wouldn't be a true
snapshot
unfiltered you
is freckled by sun

with hands
deeply-grooved
by changing sea tides

your words steady
as you crochet
bedsheet with scent
of earth

  1. Your words remind me of my grandmother, and I wonder if that’s what our grandchildren will think of us. The scent might not be lavender and we might knit instead of crochet, but I have freckles on my hands!

  18. I love the contrast of the changing waves and the steady hands.. She encompasses something that would have seemed to be greater, but she exceeds it in her hands. And the fecund sweet scent of Earth! Such a loving portrait Grace
