Life Lessons
I.
imagine your hands-
a tinderbox, a lightning rod
what will you fashion today?
a zest of sunshine,
a pail of thunderstorms
or a river of kindness to share
with people you meet along the way
you are the carpenter of your home
and your town
you are the gardener of your body
and your family
spear your hands
to goodness and love will vine
in all the corners of your world
II.
imagine your feet-
a sailboat leaving dock
and travelling to faraway lands
what will you bring?
some luggage and carry on-
but what you carry inside you-
box of energy, belly of enthusiasm,
internal fire, thoughts of gratitude
will power your wind sails through any
sudden storms
find your rhythm and compass-
create your own map and detours-
and finally, be the lighthouse for other boats-

Oh my word, Grace. This is incredible! One of my favorites, for sure.
ReplyDeleteOh yes... this is marvelous... love how you start with the different views with the hands and the feet... the end in particular... to be lighthouse. I love that
ReplyDeleteI like the idea that what you carry inside you will power your wind sails.
ReplyDeleteCan push one forward and in doing so help others indeed. Just have to let out what's within.
ReplyDeleteWhat great metaphors, you are a sage! I like them all
ReplyDeleteA rich laundry list of wonderful characteristics. The more we aim to be better- the more the world moves along with us. I might just paste this as my screensaver!
ReplyDeleteThis is such wonderful writing!
ReplyDeleteAh, this is sage advice from someone who has lived well.

ReplyDeleteThe best life lessons: hand-made and led by feet!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of fashioning
'a zest of sunshine,
a pail of thunderstorms
or a river of kindness'
and being the gardener of my family.
The best advice is to:
'find your rhythm and compass-
create your own map and detours-
and finally, be the lighthouse for other boats'.
Nicely done, I loved it all, each word.
ReplyDeleteI love it. Your hands and feet. What we give, keep and where we go. Beautiful!
