Winter wishes

Northern wind, ice crystals, seeds of darkness
Circle our lips with gold, bright as sunflowers
Our hair grows white, buried under furs & pelts
Northern wind, ice crystals, seeds of darkness
Drift by quickly, our hands are teal with frost
Watching night sky slow dance with balding moon

      ~0~0~

strand by strand
feathers & hair entwine for a lass
more than a wig, a face to raise her voice:
     begone from whitening my limbs,
     fever & scourge, begone !

  1. Beautiful, Grace. You must be in the thick of that terrible blizzard right now. Stay safe! I love the image of the night sky slow dancing with the balding moon.

  3. wow. hopefully we are not forced to be in doors long enough for our hair to go white from lack of sun....it can surely feel like it...a cold wind here today that sucks the breath out of you...but we avoided the blizzard...if it is going to be cold i would at least like the snow...to play and keep warm...interesting mystical feel to this as well

  4. Congestion has me feeling like winter's hair is stuck up my nose... No blizzard here, but wind'll blow you back in the door... Well written piece, Grace. Loved our hands are teal with frost, cause my lips are at the moment... heheheh

  5. a very nice personification of winter here... the ice and cold but also the breath-taking beauty - love the part with feather and hair entwining esp.

  6. Well, this is a winter poem if ever there was one. I really resonate with the 'ice crystals' which I can feel in the winter air. And the night sky dancing with the balding moon? Ha, what a flirt!

  7. It is storming over where I am, and I can sympathize with you and this cold blustery winds. Already there is a whole two feet of snow.

  8. Like a snowqueen you go in to that frosty air.. I can see it in those images of white hair and frost.. like condensing rime in the hair... the moon usually means it's super cold.

  9. White hair blondes can be stunning, both men & women; terrific duo of poems, Grace; the first one resonates most with me. We, thank God, on the coast of WA state, are having (knock on wood) a very mild snowless rainy winter; which I did; hate snow, hate driving in it & am surrounded by hills & mountains; tire chains are not my friend.

  10. I adore Bjorn's reference to you as a Snow Queen, chilly beauteous royalty.

  12. Yes, the balding moon is a perfect contrast with hair.

  13. The first poem is a very apt one for the season. You have captured what we see and, most important, how it makes us feel.

  27. It is white outside my home, a land covered by snow… not as beautiful and evocative as your poem, though.
