in the eye of the storm

fire is gone from your

     eyes

you, caught in tangle of fallen

     spires

have lost your sparkle, twinkle

    and stamina

i don't want to know

    more than I need to

Inside, I'm also speared

   shell in limbo

i 'm trying to find our ocean,

but the netting is heavy rope

in the flickering candle-

    light

Posted for dVerse Poets Pub- Theme is Limbo, by guest blogger M.   It is also 55 words, in honor of the late G-Man.   Thanks for the visit.

  1. I like this. It harks back to the Seamus Heaney.

  2. That image of the heavy nets and the lacking of light... I can really see this, and feel it.

  3. G-Man would be proud; used to love those 55's. At first I thought this was about Notre Dame, but then I got lost in the sensual and powerful imagery; perhaps the loss of a loved one.

  4. A really well written verse Grace... Loved the illusions of aging love ...or lack of it!

  5. I like the description of limbo as being inside a net of heavy rope.

  6. This is an excellent expression Grace, of two people caught in the limbo of a stalled relationship. I really enjoyed the read...

  8. I can feel a dichotomy - the wish to be close, the inability to make that happen. The imagery is wonderful - took me from sky to sea in a swooping curve.

  9. Grace, thanks again for asking me to guest host.

This is finely woven, and indeed Galen would have loved it. Melancholic but not maudlin, which is no easy task.

    Cheers

  11. This line is such a stunner: "i 'm trying to find our ocean"

The whole piece is fabulous; I would expect nothing less from you. Everything you deliver is so thoughtful and well written.

  12. a fast paced somewhat gritty poem that encapsulates so well a relationship in limbo
    - this line especially clever:
    "caught in tangle of fallen

    spires
    "

  13. I love the title to this Grace- in the eye of the storm, which is usually calm with turmoil surrounding. What an incredible description of aging love.

  14. Can be hard to find one's way through sometimes.

  15. Lovely--and wistful. The whole thing was well-crafted, but I loved the final lines.

  16. I love the range of imagery in this poem, Grace, from the ‘tangle of fallen spires’ to the ‘speared shell in limbo… trying to find our ocean’. The juxtaposition of heavy rope and flickering candle-light conveys the feeling of limbo in a relationship so well.

  17. Clever...trying to find our ocean. Many of us are in the same boat.
