the morning sky shimmers, powder
blue, light as flour -
scattered snow clouds
train of lace crowns -
pear trees are breezing open, flutes
ringing with fruits
green, small as thumbs
soon, sweet on tongues
daffodils and white asters sway
peach blossoms splay
summer calls, blurs-
you are not here

Got in some rhyme as summer is sublime. Everything opening up.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful! I can't even pick a favorite phrase; it's all so compelling.
ReplyDeleteYou are truly a gifted poet, Grace. Thank you for always lifting my spirits with your skill.
A description of what is there except the "you" at the end. Nice minute poem, Grace!
ReplyDeleteI admire how you got a serious poem out of this form, Grace, with run ons to boot!
ReplyDeleteYour minute poem was so calming and uplifting, Grace, with its powder blue morning sky, 'light as flour', the pear trees 'breezing open' and splaying peach blossom, and then I came face to face with the sad-blue twist at the end.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, the whole thing and especially the middle stanza with the pears like thumbs. Nice choices in rhyme which allowed the rhymes to take a back seat to the creative imagery.
ReplyDeleteI love your poem, Grace :)
ReplyDeleteOh, run ons. My dream. Lovely poem, flows beautifully, not as tum ti tum as many minute poems end up being. It's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteFlawless. like feathers floating gently on a summer breeze.XX
ReplyDeleteOnce again you imagery shines. You are starting to rival Mary Oliver, Grace.

Amazing. You turned the frivolous form around like playing a concerto with a banjo.
ReplyDeleteYou managed a minute poem that made sense and was filled with lovely phrases. I bow to your talent!
ReplyDeleteLove the growing fruit. We saw tiny red pears on three trees in a front yard on our neighborhood walk with the dog the other night. Summer growth is glorious and captured well in this poem.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful minute poem.
ReplyDeletetrain of lace crowns is such a lovely visual.
ReplyDeleteBlue summer is keenly felt with a loved one's absence.
You had me, yes, at /train of lace crowns/--rocking the prompt, with nice twist ending--like Jewish curses--"may you have great success, own a mansion with 100 rooms--and may you be sick in every one of them !"
ReplyDeleteA sweet poem that captures summer.
ReplyDeleteThere are nature's blessing missed in summer
