We dive straight from pale sky to frozen sea
Where the past throbs above tides, flash of blue
Glints with champagne eyes, lips kissed by wild tea
The moon song is flammable, heady brew
Hold me tight, not a space, before we crash
land to reality, our messy banes -
Old clock ticks, breaking your glass in hot flash-
Night is sweet, and I drown in you again-
Why am I such a fool smitten maiden?
I wish I didn't need your every kiss, sigh
Chasing and courting favors, I flayed
At edges, fragile and I don't know why
Tell me, if this insane love's a tragedy
Unbind me! Why are you my clarity?
Remixed lyrics from Zedd, Clarity
Posted for D'verse Poets Pub - Pop Sonnets hosted by Kim M. Russell. We take a modern song and spin it into a sonnet form in this style, Pop Sonnet. I haven't written the sonnet form in a while so I am a bit rusty. Join us when the pub opens at 3pm EST with your sonnets.
This is an interesting approach - the remixed pop song. Cool. You did so well with it, Grace.
ReplyDeleteA remix that still has one stuck in love
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with this particular song. but you def made a sonnet out of it--& it seems to lend itself to the form. Not knowing the song, I can't fully appreciate the tweaks you gave it--but as a poem it works well to the bone.
ReplyDeleteWow, Grace, I don't know the original song but this is a gorgeous sonnet! I love those opening lines:
ReplyDelete'We dive straight from pale sky to frozen sea
Where the past throbs above tides, flash of blue
Glints with champagne eyes, lips kissed by wild tea'.
what a fabulous start to the pop sonnets!
I've just been on to YouTube and I prefer your version!
ReplyDeleteI recognized the song with the last word "clarity". It is an odd situation to be in, and perhaps very common, where insanity is someone's clarity, but the song is very good.
ReplyDeleteYou always bring beauty!
ReplyDeleteNot familiar with the song but love the sonnet you've done!
ReplyDelete"lips kissed by wild tea" -- you have an amazing way with words. This is a wonderful phrase! And I do love the final words!!! How true it is, right? One's love can be one's clarity. :) Well done! Enjoyed it very much.
I do not know this song but your sonnet is stunningly beautiful, Grace! All I had to do is put a line of your sonnet in search and Clarity came up. Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with this song... or group. I will listen. The poem is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSince a few people don't know the song, I thought I'd share it:

And now I can see a cool remix that you have done. Cool phrases in the song and your sonnet.
Rusty? I sure couldn't tell. You did a phenomenal job. Have a fantastic weekend, Grace.
ReplyDeletei love this song Grace, the power in the words and her voice just says so much, and your second stanza was so divine, my favourite line is "Hold me tight, not a space," - I imagine being so connected with someone on a deeper level that's how we would be with each other.
ReplyDeleteYou made a lovely sonnet of it. I love the opening stanza.
ReplyDeleteNow that's insanity as we figure out why someone is our clarity.
ReplyDeleteNice words :)
I didn't know this song. Such beautiful words. That first stanza left me breathless.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sonnet. Couldn't tell that you are rusty at all :)
ReplyDeleteOh, Grace. THIS:
ReplyDelete"Glints with champagne eyes, lips kissed by wild tea"
This is your signature fantastic way with words. Love your sonnet.
Well done! A wonderfully rendered piece with sublime rhyming. I love rhyming done well - and you have nailed it, here.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't even think of a sonnet during April~
