leaves are delicate rust
mulched in sepia
as carpet of tendrils
rise, underfoot
every bud is heady
as spring roars, steps
into the view, from bridge
to field of weeds -
overhead, sloping hills
tides flow, taking troubled
waters away, to breeze's sway
my dress of green
and bucket of seeds, ready
to garden, we dig
as butterflies, with tiger-striped
hues, flutter wings, so new

One of my favorite songs of all time! And I especially love these lines

Oh yes, let spring roar in and let the troubled waters be imbued with sunshine! :) LOVE your response to the prompt!
Strings sometimes do bring troubled waters and it is time for planting. Nice butterfly photo.
ReplyDeleteI just bought my oldest daughter supplies today, so that she can plant her own flower garden.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, Grace.
Lovely poem. This song came out the year after I graduated from high school.
ReplyDeleteAn excellent use of the prompt--burying the title midst the poetics, as instructed. Your Muses of Spring are still spinning their verdant web around your creativity. You have a volume of Spring poems now.
ReplyDeleteSpin a tune as spring sure has come, for now, to our sand dune
ReplyDeleteNicely and delicately inserted song title wrapped in your usual finesse.
ReplyDeleteNice to revisit that beloved song, nicely wrapped in your poetics, of course!
ReplyDeleteWonderful song of spring. Thank you
ReplyDeleteLovely. The reader's minds eye darting about, throughout the piece, as the scene plays out.
ReplyDelete' ... to breeze's sway
my dress of green'
inserted, so beautifully - I can see the breeze rustling the folds of the dress". I am there.
I love so many aspects of this -- the roar of spring, rising tendrils...and the bridge and troubled waters are woven in so subtly (a favourite song in my early teens)
ReplyDeleteoh i am so so inlove with this <3 <3 <3
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. Butterflies make the world a lot prettier. Such wonderful creatures.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely poem Grace capturing Spring muscling its way into focus.
ReplyDeleteI love this song and your poem is gorgeous - I especially love 'as butterflies, with tiger-striped
ReplyDeletehues, flutter wings, so new'
This is a great way to burst into Spring; with the waters troubling the snow and first planting. I hope Spring has sprung where you are. That would definitely be a bridge over troubled waters!
ReplyDeleteI remember practicing that song with a friend over and over again
ReplyDeleteHappy for you that Spring has come 'round for you once more, Grace. It is here but we are still having quite a lot of rain but the sun peeks out once in awhile. Lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, I know you are in Spring :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter Grace!!
Love that song - delighted to find it snugggled among your beautiful words
ReplyDeleteAmazing how you melded the song into the poem here, Grace. I especially love "to breeze away my dress of green"
