Haibun: Night sky

The sky is deep lavender, wrinkled by red dust and orange stars.   We scout and trace the fireflies hiding behind the palm trees.   All the windows are open, and we can hear the last echoes of the dinner's conversations.   Soon, all is quiet murmuring of breeze, and even the buzzing creatures wait for the evening show.   Yes, here it is -  the moon rise above the heaving sea tides.   Red and yellow trenches, plump with silver iridescence.   Your gaze is filled with wonder at the sight.    I look at you, my heart racing in excitement.   Words tremble at the tip of my tongue.

  1. I like how you take the wonderful night with its richness of color and project it on the wonderful love story in the end... and the haiku giving an excellent contrast... wonderful

  12. Smell the sea and witness the creatures turning to the moon, as do the lovers. A detailed scene filled with tactile memories.

  13. I love the way you start with colour, shift focus to the sounds of the dinner conversation and then the sounds of the garden, and then finally focus on the moon and romance, crowned by the haiku: 'summer, a quicksilver'. Gorgeous!

  18. There is so much wonder in this haibun. I especially love the use of the word "plump." And the haiku -- the shift to the apple and the quick silver of summer. Wonderful!

  19. I love that descriptive first line...and, of course, the haibun. A neighbor's apple tree "blesses" our yard and every day I try to pick some spoiled fruit up before the dogs get it. Autumn is in the air.

  22. Yes, here it is -
    the moon rise above
    the heaving sea tides

One can almost see and feel the heave and pull tirelessly of the waves in lapping the shore!

  23. The color and light is stunning, Grace! First phrase of prose and last phrase of "ku" wrap your haibun perfectly.
