Awakening spring

a red apple
plops

on soil
a half-world away

summer
pulses of hungry bees & fire-

             flies-
it's the season of heat, lime-

pressed drinks & masked

carnivals- i wait

for curl

of first magnolia bulb

& quickening of new

               moon

  1. Ah, your poem gives me something to look forward to. Heat and lime-pressed drinks call to me! Very effective use of imagism, Grace.

  2. I think carnival comes next week... And the Chinese New Year.. Magnolia bulbs though.. Not quite there yet. But I noticed 5 PM that it's not pitch dark any longer.

  4. Oh, goodness. That magnolia bud IS a new moon. How incredibly lovely.
    Also, THIS:
    "summer

    Sigh. Gorgeous.

  6. My neighbour has a magnolia tree, and I can't wait for it to bloom. It's exquisite, as is your poem, Grace.

  7. This is exquisite. So ripe and sexy. It drips, baby.

Every apple must fall. You make my mouth water-hungry for sin.

    1. Oh, I love the hidden meaning in the title: you want to awaken someone's "spring" (both noun[s] and verb)

  17. Oh I love this one, Grace! Especially these lines (and their arrangement)
    "summer
pulses of hungry bees & fire-

    flies-
it's the season of heat, lime-

    pressed drinks & masked
    carnivals- i wait"

The arrangement makes me conjure up bonfires, then fire flies (which I dearly love and miss) and finally flies....all images of summer.
    Beautiful exquisite photo too.

  21. Very well done in the imagist mode, Grace. We almost don't have winter here in Albany. I hope it presages an early spring.

  24. Although summer is half a world away, we're having an unseasonably warm winter, so I won't complain ☺
