blue
blue iris
blooming blue iris
in spring, fresh as dew
heradling a season of flowers-
delicate pink hydrangeas,forget-
me-nots, red roses and orange-gold marigolds
lavender and purple, mixed with laughter & cries
of children, stories & jokes on mustard picnic blankets-
my balcony circled by bright yellow zinnas & orange calendulas
let me remember the pattern of joy
& the weaved threads of gladness-
sun-wheel of blessings-
before my memories
sloppily-slip in the
rain

I love the shape of your poem, Grace, and the way you have coloured it with flowers. I especially love the phrase ‘sun-wheel of blessings’.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Grace the way you have distinguished words like single brush strokes of paint in a composite poem
ReplyDeleteThere is so much to love about this. I like the shape also, it’s almost mirroring her Eclipse painting.
ReplyDelete“blue

I love the development here, very contemplative of every aspect of a thing, very observational. I love all the happy experiences and memories you weaved into your poem, and
“the pattern of joy
& the weaved threads of gladness-
sun-wheel of blessings”
Very beautiful and somewhat bittersweet. The last sentence was a perfect ending to the piece.
ReplyDeletePerfect build to brilliant blue. This form is ideal for this prompt; especially so for the (Marvelous!) close. Is there a rating higher than 10?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteYou did a beautiful job with this prompt. I like the idea of flowers growing in patterns in the painting.
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous colour palette you have created! Such a beautiful shape too, Grace.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colours painted in your words. I enjoyed the journey and all the beauty in front of me.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
ReplyDeleteAs a sometime painter you had me at blue iris and you pulled me through your, entire, beautiful pallette, Grace...
ReplyDeleteI love the form and application of colours to you poem. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI like how your poem evolves, Grace. :)
ReplyDeleteThis poem has great movement. I enjoyed how it grew, pulling me through a lush flower garden, to a bench to sit and ponder the beauty.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Grace. That first stanza is eye-popping with color and beauty, but that last one moved my heart and made me say, "yes, me too!" We went a very similar direction with our poems!
ReplyDeleteYou capture not only the color but the shapes. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteYour poem is so full of colour. Nice one

I’ve always loved your poetry! It’s been a few years now. Beautiful imagery.
ReplyDeleteI love the formatting of this poem. I started mine from the outside and you started yours from the inside. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the contrast of inner and outer , object-subject, and the whole palette imagery, and the shape (like an etheree)
