this notebook is a bear
-hug I need
warm as fuzzy blanket
on winter night
my pen stirs the soup
of longing sun
of butterfly wishes
of spring seeds & peppermint sky
and i am there
with you
each page, smooth
spoonful of sugar custard
each chapter, drum
-beat of heady blues & wine
i fold its hands
cupped with sangria flowers
of my secrets

This is exquisitely drawn, Grace!💝 I especially admire; "each page, smooth spoonful of sugar custard/each chapter, drum-beat of heady blues & wine."💝
ReplyDeleteI so wish I could keep up a relationship with a notebook... it's so much cooler than the keyboard I'm using.
ReplyDeleteI love the notebook bear hug, Grace, the soup-stirring pen, and especially the lines:
ReplyDelete‘i fold its hands
cupped with sangria flowers
of my secrets’.
Such comforting, warming winter images in your lines, Grace:
ReplyDeleteof longing sun
of butterfly wishes
of spring seeds & peppermint sky
Even the secrets have a warmth to them as they imply sharing. I love the 'bear/-hug I need' to open as well!
Exactly what folks in the Northern Hemisphere needed to read ~~ those cold snowy places. Instant warmth in lots of ways, all good.💜
ReplyDeleteAll the longing for summer, warmth and a particular person is there. Lovely images.
ReplyDeletethe aura of yearning, to give and receive, shines here
ReplyDeleteHeady blues drumbeat and sangria flowers....aaaahhhhh
ReplyDeleteAh, pen and notebook hold secrets, thoughts half-formed and full-blown. A great write, Grace.
ReplyDeletea fuzzy blanket of a poem, I like the imagery and the compactness of the form and particularly
ReplyDelete"my pen stirs the soup
of longing sun"

This is a beautiful homage to your notebook. I regard my journal as an appendage! I particularly love these lovely lines ... 🥰

That's exactly what a notebook does - keeping tabs and keeping secrets as all being personal!

Amazing how you give life to inanimate objects! Wonderfully rendered.
ReplyDeletea deep warmth in your tribute to your diary which holds all sorts of secrets of sun, soup, wishes and flowers ...

definitely a meal I'd enjoy!
I too like the line of the pen stirring the soup... that is exactly what poets do! A great poem Grace!
ReplyDeleteas a bookworm myself I really loved the personification!

I picked this out, and then I scrolled down and discovered EVERYONE had picked it out, too. I love the idea of the pen as spoon. Soup is featuring heavily at the moment in our diet - I love the way you can throw things in and something delicious comes out at the end - a little like this poem.
The line breaks are evocative. This is a poem that needs to be read aloud.
ReplyDeleteLovely piece Grace - I particularly liked the first line - notebook as a bear / bear-hug - speaks to both the comfort and the struggle of creation.
