an impatien(t) rearrangement, i move potted plants

from cold draft

to cradled lamp light

   i (too) am impatient

for passing of northern wind

shreding black-tarred maple

leaves to leather-rust

earth

plots seedpod, rebulbs tubers

(sleep)

womb of possibilities-

   green fingerlings, pink-sunlit crowns,

   petals bee-trimmed in mediterranean

   hues-

unperturbed by winter's breath

  1. Oh we have those plants indoors since a long time... we just have to wait and let them rest in their cool light haven. I wonder if there is a place for humans as well to rest....

  2. This is exquisitely drawn, Grace. Winter is such a challenging time as we get accustomed to the blowing winds.. love the image of "pink-sunlit crowns, petals bee-trimmed in mediterranean hues- unperturbed."💝💝

  3. Grace, you know I loves me some parentheses! Such a fantastic spill of words here, and so visual. I love when 44 words feels like so much more, as is the case here. Wonderful.

  4. How comforting to think of the Earth as the 'womb of possibilities' storing up delights through winter to emerge in the spring

  5. I enjoyed the use of space and parentheses in this poem, Grace, and love the care taken with the potted plants. I was especially drawn to the lines:
    ‘shredding black-tarred maple
    leaves to leather-rust’
    and
    ‘womb of possibilities-
    green fingerlings, pink-sunlit crowns,
    petals bee-trimmed in mediterranean
    hues-
    unperturbed by winter's breath’.

  7. Loving the title....and the use of parentheses as only you can....the repotting of plants, the impatien flowers and the impatient you. :)
Moving plants indoors....ah but mother earth (that womb) is so much better for the plants..but if we put some of her into the pots, will that not suffice?

  9. Just today I rearranged all the plants and put in newly bough plant lights to help them survive during the winter.

Maybe I should read them your poem as I say goodnight, absolutely loved it! 💖

  15. I took a walk today and all the fall splendor has faded away. Perhaps, I needed some potted plants to make me feel alive.
