Choose your spell

when days are stretched taut as strings-

when nights are purpled in turmoil-

remember that you wield

color of your sky-dome

blue as silent lake

calm as palm of deep forest

or

grey-metal, sawdust of despair

in storm-drivelled clouds

or

pumpkin-pixelled

coaxing sunflower spells

  1. This is gorgeously deep and evocative, Grace!💝 I resonate strongly with the idea of wielding one's energy and "color of sky-dome." How we choose to react to life, people and circumstances matter!

  2. I love this... at night you need to have those colors close to your heart... maybe that's why we dream

  3. I love your metaphors here - and the idea of choice is very well done.

  7. I love the title, Grace, which I felt was just for me – an invitation. I enjoyed the similes and metaphors, especially those days ‘stretched taut as strings’, which they will be again if/when we have another lockdown, together with nights purpled in turmoil. And then you twist your quadrille around with the reminder that I wield the colour of my sky-dome – and what a choice of colours! The image is so cheerful, it has raised my spirit this evening.

  8. Oh my goodness, Grace...I love everything about this! The sense of self-determination just rings from your words here and the description is savory and beautiful! Some of my favorite phrases
    days stretched taut as strings
    grey-metal, sawdust of despair
and MOST ESPECIALLY pumpkin-pixelled....this just made me smile!

  9. And sometimes that color wheel spins moment by moment. Enjoy the brightness whenever you can, which is my takeaway from your poem. Nicely done.

  10. It's a nice idea, being able to create the decor for our mood, or change decor to change our mood.

  12. Dwelling on calamity darkens our "sky dome", so I believe. I tend to want to surround myself with positivity. May it be so!

  15. This is something I need to share with my fellow writers here at dVerse. I so enjoy reading the work that you create and post, and am genuinely honored to be embraced as a part of this community of poets. May we all find healing in these challenging times. And as a true aquarian love child, and also a proud flower child of the 60’s, who truly believed then we would some day change the world to be a better place for all, and still believes that we might yet do it — I wish each of you peace, health, and love. Write on!

  16. Just lovely Grace - the pairing of sounds - purpled in turmoil; pumpkin pixelled; calm as a palm - delicious - I'd read it aloud, except the guys working on my gutters would think me odd (I'll wait till they leave).

  27. Such evocative imagery here, Grace. You had me at "when nights are purpled in turmoil". I love the message of accepting what is (nonjudgmental, even playfully) and then wielding the true power of choice.
