you are walking on air
between raindrops
feasting on changing
colors
of leaves, one heartbeat
at a time
as one black umbrella
opens
up after another
“Follow me”
says your guts
this is the path
you want to cut out
for yourself: dream-chaser
oxygen rushes to your
lungs
knife-winding & halo-storming
like that first time you
flew
kite to crown the sky

I like the tone of your poem, Grace, determination but with exhilaration and a dreamy feel to it. It does feel we are 'walking on air'.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of being a 'dream-chaser' on the path of life. Wonderful way to discover the 'changing colors' of life! A lovely write, Grace.
ReplyDeleteWe all chase dreams...and then we change...and change again, and more, still chasing--but different dreams!
ReplyDelete...and comparing it all to the "first time you flew a kite to crown the sky."
LOVE this one, Grace. THOUGHTFUL SIMPLICITY.
Following one's guts is always the way to go :) beautiful poem Grace.
ReplyDeleteCut out such a path and chase away, hopefully won't have to balance as much though lol
ReplyDeletenice...it takes guts to set out on your own...to listen to those guts...it may be drier at times in the herd under everyones umbrella, but you feel so much more alive when you listen to that whisper...
ReplyDeleteI love this path of the dream chaser much above the ground lit up by halo-storms...what beautiful words you've created Grace...thanks for participating :)
ReplyDeleteoxygen rushes to your lungs - Amazing line and such emotion this really hit home, sometimes everything is in the balance and all you have got left is the air that you breathe. Great words.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful, Grace.

ReplyDeleteJust lovely Grace:)
ReplyDeleteIt is exhilrating to be able to follow the path that one's heart desires - it is then that one feels like "waking on air". Lovely!
ReplyDeleteYes..a new path that is forged is never the same..:)by umbrella or foot alone...
ReplyDeleteLove the first couple of lines- they really set the tone for the rest of the poem, and were a wonderful reflection of the photo.
ReplyDeletelet the dreams unfurl.............
ReplyDeleteI forged a new path, serene and comfortable in the rain. All rush inside & I know it is time to go outside sans hat or brolly and light one up, daring the rain to put it out. It never does because the rain and I agree that peace and quiet are hard to find so you takes it wheres you finds it.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a follow your dreams poem.
ReplyDeleteI love Joel's photography.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to take flight holding an umbrella
I like the simplicity of this and the ideas as well, especially the reminder that we are all dream-chasers of one kind of another.
