Night sky, shimmer your mirrors of light
Streak our path with meteor showers
Quarter moon is rising, silver knight
Crossing above winter's storm, so white
We hunt for arrows and spears of Gods
Night sky, shimmer your mirrors of light
We bring coins to buskers, ink to poets
We offer good tidings for a glimpse of heaven
Look, quarter moon is rising, silver knight
We open our palms to catch bluish of circles
Night sky, shimmer your mirrors of light
Soon darkness with the longest hours
Will come, drawing strings of new season
Quarter moon is rising, silver knight
But tonight, you're fullness, glorious tower
Night sky, shimmer your mirrors of light
Quarter moon is rising, silver knight

Wow... what a wonderful Villanelle... and so timely this close to winter solstice. Love the refrains and the small changes you have injected into this. I can almost hear this being sung.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at /we hunt for arrows and spears of Gods/. I liked the 'silver knight' refrain too. Your poem sparkles with flakes and sheets of hope and affection. I bow to your optimism and good will. You use the form so well, it does not bring focus to itself. Happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful write Grace!
ReplyDeleteOh this is such a beautifully worded Villanelle 💖 especially like; "We open our palms to catch bluish of circles/Night sky, shimmer your mirrors of light." Happy Holidays, Grace 😊
ReplyDeleteA stunning, sparkling villanelle, Grace! I particularly like the way your ‘dream of spring tulips and sunflowers’ fits in with my surprise daffodils.
ReplyDeleteThe beauty of this poem is in its whole, the way it all sounds together.

ReplyDeleteThe alternating repetitions are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI hope you were able to watch Geminid meteor showers (Dec 13 and 14) as your first stanza illustrates..
Happy Holidays and New year :)
Grace,
ReplyDeleteA wonderful mastery of the form. I like the use of contrasts: light/dark, earthbound fields of flowers/the mirror of the night sky. A fine piece. I hope your holidays are happy and that the new year brings you joy.
