#brava!

we walked on eggshells
around his supersized ego-
         chickens
giving him pass for his lewd-
ness and foxy behavior

it was our season of sickness,
         rut and rust
we were pawns
in his checkered games-

until 1 woman finds her
footing
core
          earth and iron
speaks up
breaks the silence
of gated mountains,
finds a chorus of women

           #metoo

to build a bridge
over the deep rivers-

           checkmate!

  1. I really understand that walking on eggshells and the checkmate symbols... highly effective on a topic that seems to break down some mighty pillars.

  3. Those eggshells must be pretty big if the ego-chickens are supersized! Great contrast of chickens and foxy behaviour. I enjoyed the lines:
    'breaks the silence
    of gated mountains,
    finds a chorus of women

    #metoo

    to build a bridge
    over the deep rivers'.

  4. I had to read this several times to fully appreciate all of the symbolism and I am glad I did otherwise I wouldn't have done it justice. Sometimes it is like David v Goliath, the battle seems to be impossible to win. What we stand to lose seems to be too great when we worked so hard for it.

  5. Those eggshells can be hard to walk on, but then you push through and break down barriers too.

  6. Brava indeed, and a long time coming. You should consider submitting this to Real Toads too. Continue breaking the silence!

    1. Thank you but I have no interest in linking up to other poetry groups. My time is not enough.

  7. I think you're a bit harsh on the fox, but I like the fox and eggs play.

  8. Checkmate indeed!
I think women are stronger now, more sure-footed, but that said, I worry we are creating our own eggshells...

  9. Its hard to be that first to speak up because you know its not going to make life easier and you are unsure if anyone will back you or remain silent for fear of repercussions.

I would be just as proud of the second. The third. Ans the fourth.

  10. Another poem about women speaking out.
So glad they are. So disgusted by men of this sort

  11. Bravo! Two poems in one! And the double entendre of "checkmate!"

  12. I worked for this man for four years. And I truly loved him and his wife. But he crossed so many lines, physically and verbally. Daily. I was so afraid I would lose my job and promising career if I didn't let him "play." He owned the company. He was already 60, and I was just 22 and stupid.

    1. You were not stupid. This is all on him....and the many hims that are not getting outed for their power plays. You are powerful and you are owning your self value and worth just by printing these words here. Bravo to you. Hold your head up high and walk proudly!

    2. No,you are not stupid. You were brave to carry it through and now you have the insight of what it was. You are still brave and you should not let that past defined you now. Carry on, dear sister!

  13. Timely. And in so many ways you've expressed so much here. As someone else said, let the dominoes fall. One of the marks of good writing is the connection it forges with its readers. Look at the comment above mine here that starts "I worked..." You've enabled someone else to speak out in a public forum. Bravo to you in this write!

  14. Excellent! You captured the essence of the tidal wave. More power to us!

  15. I like the chickens who can fight back and air their grievances...now with less fear hopefully.

  16. each and every verse strikes a profound note that's ringing the changes at last- chickens & fox especially apt

  17. The floodgates have been opened. Let no women (or man) be shamed or threatened about telling the truth.

May these same floodgates wash away the filth that made sexual harrassment so rampant. May everybody have the respect each one deserves.

  18. Given the seemingly unending allegations in what is, already a massive aggregate of offenses - I am stunned that such a plethora of crimes and wrongdoings could have evaded exposure, to the extent that it did. It is scary-awful. Great job on this!

  19. When'Someday' rolls around it can really pack a punch. This entrenched behavior finally have the offenders toppling like dominoes. Their day has come! Such a good post, well done.
