October's spells

Autumn, what is my name

Autumn, what is my name

I am scatterseed, fruit of October

I am scatterseed, fruit of October

I am of Autumn's fruit, scatterseed

October, what is my name

Moon-scarred, I coax sunflower spells

Moon-scarred, I coax sunflower spells

Cleave me to light

Cleave me to light

Spells cleave me to sunflower

I coax light, moon-scarred

Darkness is a  cocoon wrapping the night

Darkness is a  cocoon wrapping the night

Making me soft as milkwitch

Making me soft as milkwitch

The night is making me soft as milkwitch

Wrapping darkness, a cocoon

Autumn spells I coax - scatterseed, moon-

scarred sunflower in October

What light cleave me, I am

Of soft fruit of darkness, I am

Making a cocoon, wrapping the night

Milkwitch is my name

rhythm of autumn

autumn, autumn, sway us away

fading yellow to the ground, moist

with rain, our leaves & blooms paler

than the waning apple-cidered moon

autumn, autumn, swirl us away

turning darker red & black purple each

passing hour, we gently accept as

our summer golden skin turn to ash

autumn, autumn swing us away

knitting our fears of change, we are

changing, from fullness to emptiness-

we collect new words for sorrow

autumn, autumn, swirl us away

into the rhythm of life & pulse of death

we succumb, grateful for blessings

from trees, warmth from dying sunlight

dear traveller

Do not wait for me

I have found my map

Though my pockets are lined with sadness

I carry your gift, a wild flower yellow pin

I have found my map

And travelled to another country

Carrying your gift, a wild flower yellow pin

Reminding me to smell the flowers along the way

While travelling to another country

Your letters keep me company, soft as light

Reminding me to smell the flowers along the way

Will our paths cross again?   Maybe, I'm hopeful

Your letters keep me company, soft as light

Though my pockets are lined with sadness

Will our paths  cross again?   Maybe, you said.

Please, do not wait for me.

Keeper of keeps

settle me, leafy & limber as grape vines

upon pillows of leaves, a symmetry of green

i breath in your cool breath, light, green

on greening maple and oak trees, sky

clocks the long hours of daylight

rosy long hours of sunlight

in your greenness, i taste salt

of earth, & summer sun salting

my skin to brown, to flowering blooms, to pierce

my heart as a pear tree of flowering blooms, so fierce

for what am i without you

empty greenhouse, without you, greening

me with a thread of fire, greening

with threads of fire

notes to myself

be

the bluebird swelling with songs as sun rises

the tide storm dancing with kelp

the pearl drops on fallen maple leaves

the electric guitar strings of wind's murmurings

the light keeper in darkest of nights

be

 madly in love with life

 unapologetically, myself

Night Sky

Night sky, shimmer your mirrors of light
Streak our path with meteor showers
Quarter moon is rising, silver knight

Crossing above winter's storm, so white
We hunt for arrows and spears of Gods
Night sky, shimmer your mirrors of light

We bring coins to buskers, ink to poets
We offer good tidings for a glimpse of heaven
Look, quarter moon is rising, silver knight

Heralding dancing shadows, colorful sight
We open our palms to catch bluish of circles
Night sky, shimmer your mirrors of light

Soon darkness with the longest hours
Will come, drawing strings of new season
Quarter moon is rising, silver knight

We dream of spring tulips and sunflowers
But tonight, you're fullness, glorious tower
Night sky, shimmer your mirrors of light
Quarter moon is rising, silver knight

Snapshots

he huddles under forlorn blankets
beside post, his belongings boxed,
all stillness
but for his cap begging for alms

                       winter is coming

she hears the aches in her bones,
wails of distress in her room
she pens a note:
travel & listen to bird songs

                       winter is coming

subway platform picks up haunting
strains of the saxophone, evoking music
of yesterdays, crumbling
in sweet notes

                      winter is coming

autumn leaves are dotted white
as trees shed their flaming colors-
my album of photos show, not grief
but tranquility

                     winter is coming
