i'm drinking watermelon juice
Sunday afteroon is pouring hot sauce
over the charred skin of grilled chicken
sky is tender blue, rolling fluffy doughs of clouds
with hint of playful rain, at bay
i love this season of wilting blooms and and cantalouped-
cheeked sun, wrinkling my face

Solstice
We walk with long shadows trailing
As sun sets with hues unveiling
Orange and red weaves with soft blue
We guzzle summer's heady brew
Red roses carpet, scent of green
Misting our brows with sweaty sheen
On the horizon, half-moon rises
Silvering lips stained by spices

Beyond the pearls & blur-
he gives her a bouquet of red roses
one dozen in full bloom, she presses her nose
for sweet perfume, as she sits on her quilt
but what tingles her spine as she inhales - guilt
she starts to undress, scattering red petals
amidst their bed as passion pours & settles
like rainclouds, his lips shouting love, my love!
but in her mind, she heard get rid of!
his lies taunt her, like poisoned white wine
songs & gifts that he gave someone else- brine
she can taste it - enough of this deception, no more!
she'll snare him first, as she grabs roses from floor
madness came on thorns of the red roses
... striking, hitting, carving- as he discloses
feathery promises until his blood stains white
sheets so bright, in the grim of midnight
here's a solitary rose in bloodied hands
the room's a river of black purple sands
she gets what she wants -beyond the pearls & blur
a perfect offering: his heart only for her-

This is an old poem I wrote back in 2011, which I have revised to have a rhyming couplet ~

Outside my window
The roses are abounding
like tiara of rubies & silk
umbrellas unfolding in the rain
Do you see each petal glistening
ruffled red, lavish as the sunset
leaning in to inhale the last days of spring
Each neck arching to the clear sky
slender & long as crowned cranes-
bones tender under the prickled flesh
Do you hear the energy & pulse beating
of the seeds in its bosom or curling of roots
in the soil, sturdy even in harsh winter season
of the seeds in its bosom or curling of roots
in the soil, sturdy even in harsh winter season
Are its memories intact when cut & wrapped
into a bouquet or pressed dry between the pages-
into a bouquet or pressed dry between the pages-
Or does it make new ones, birthing & rising anew-
I marvel at the mystery-
And I am content with not knowing more
As I gaze at their beauty framing my window

The best Valentine gift to give
Most people would say that flowers are the best Valentine gift to give.
It doesn't matter if they are red roses
It doesn't matter if they are red roses
or yellow roses
or pink roses.
It doesn't matter if the flowers
came in a dozen
or just one. Flowers are great gifts to give anyone.
But for me, a pink home made card with a heart shaped message or baked cookies would be fine as Valentine gifts as well.
Actually, the last two are the best Valentine gifts to give.
The extra touch and time devoted to making it are priceless
as they are gifts straight from one's heart.
