Winter Tree

pine

cones grow

lush as leaves

thick   of   winter

  snow, fresh as spring rain

          musky    as    wild    berries

        unadorned, a   stark    beauty-

    night sky is   translucent    silver

mirroring  spell  of  purple  darkness-

above the balsam fir and white spruce trees

i catch

the stars

September sky

paint me a sky of apple green & red

as flocks of geese fly off as summer kites

the air is cooler with sun's fading light

autumn arrives, muted colors & dreads -

the harvest of pumpkins & plums is spread

on table with berrries & gourds weaved tight

on my canvas of hemp & cotton white

paint me a sky of apple green and red

i watch the rain hammer the browning beds

as maple leaves start to yellow in sight

dead flower heads begin to roll, a blight

autumn arrives, muted colors & dreads -

painting a sky of apple green & red

moody as trees, lush as pears with first bite-

autumn arrives, muted colors & dreads

Posted for dVerse Poets Pub- Poetry Form:  Villonnet. A Villonnet is a hybrid of the Villanelle and the Sonnet. It has the Iambic Pentameter of both, but holds the four-stanza/line structure of the sonnet, while utilizing the two-line rhyme nature of the villanelle. The final stanza replaces the sonnet couplet with a typical villanelle tercet.    Join us when the pub doors open at 3pm EST.

The Tableau

the lake is fog mist

etching the trees in

olive and russet-

wild flowers embrace

dappled morning light

their faces - perfect

a flock of ducks fly

skimming the water-

birdsongs trill the air

soulful strings, sky hymns-

lily pods & weeds

float, serene muses

gentle rain

you are the gentle rain

on burning summer sky

slow patter on my eyes

lingering kiss that remains

you are the gentle rain

sketching greens as birds fly

scatter-skitter noise, your sighs

are calming clouds & quiet plains

you are the gentle rain

humming blues with bow tie

my hands are stirring chai

winding down, hushed vane

you are the gentle rain

lilacs

lilacs bloom during my birthday week

along the pathways, they are all white

and pink with fragrance a streak

of jasmine and rose-almonds, spring

air is cool while sunny sky is meek

i walk on clouds, i write about love

i gather dainty blossoms that reek

of rain, promises and silky nights-

lilacs on the vase, clustered & chic

dear traveller

Do not wait for me

I have found my map

Though my pockets are lined with sadness

I carry your gift, a wild flower yellow pin

I have found my map

And travelled to another country

Carrying your gift, a wild flower yellow pin

Reminding me to smell the flowers along the way

While travelling to another country

Your letters keep me company, soft as light

Reminding me to smell the flowers along the way

Will our paths cross again?   Maybe, I'm hopeful

Your letters keep me company, soft as light

Though my pockets are lined with sadness

Will our paths  cross again?   Maybe, you said.

Please, do not wait for me.

yesterday's blossoms

Under almond tree, I remembered you

murmuring blues, your face a poem

I traced with walnut ink & red feather

Wrinkled leather were your cheeks, soft rain

Softer still were your fingertips, milk-warm

that stirred a storm, clanging all my shores

Unmooring my usual road, I read fear

Instead of dear, purring adventure

I gathered all my luck, lures, tunes & rides

And ran- from the moon-tides, me & you

i err

flamenca in the plaza

when midnight strikes, let's meet-

bright moon is white knight by

pomegranate tree

i'll bring my castanets,

clicking lights, red tight skirt

swishing & stomping feet

on fishbones cobbled steps-

you are red as wine

toasting the good harvest

with big bottles of cheers

the plaza is buzzing

hands clapping fast, faster

we are swept along-

tales of love & lament

we are sands in lost land

moon spells

We chatter to sangrias and songs

In Vintage tees, we cheer to yesterdays

Look up, there's a full moon beckoning-

A blue moon, silk & serene, round-eyed

Silver light, its wholeness lifting us

To gaze beyond trees, city lights, cars

Blue moon, give us the longing for stars

Map our hands with sage & bay leaves

We are soft as ocean, flowing into you

between us

your silence hovers, builds a wall

raindrops fall

that i could not see the blue sea

you lost me

in maze of doors, words so careless

(or) i lost you, us- sky's starless

my half-moon eyes betray reckless

fears & anxious longing for you

my shadows overwhelm me (sighs)

raindrops fall, you lost me, (or) i lost you, us -sky's  starless

june diary: strawberry moon

this kiss, yours -  is an unbridled sonnet

tart as wild juniper berries in gin

brimming with seduction & sloppy grin

unpredictable as crashing rocket

who would have guessed, we like chaos & black

not sweet strawberries, but peppery to

roll our tongues in shock, like a strong brew-

we adore brightness & shadows, a stack

of poems.  if we cared what they say we are-

not compatible, crazy kids with wheels-

we would not be here, love drunk, twined in teal

in a heartbeat, your eyes are silver stars

you gift me a lush garden of verses:

unrhymed poetry, dance beats, blue metric,

guitar riffs, rocking my world electric-

there's no time to dally in rehearsals

your lyrics unravel me, spilling ink

moon tides, my lungs on fire, i flower pink

the season of blossoms and catkins

above the weeping willow tree, the blue sky

shimmers with shrills from black ravens, heralding

the season of tiny crowns & catkins & blossoms

emerging with dazzling sunset of pinks and reds

my window frames a day of popping colors-

above the weeping willow tree, the blue sky

trills along with robins in building their nests

while magnolia trees perfume the air with vengence -

it's the season of tiny crowns & catkins & blossoms

sun-painted as dandelions or star-dusted as sakura

i swoon as if i have never seen flowers in my life

under the weeping willow tree.   the blue sky

transforms my words into daisy-chain verses

turning all my empty boxes into seedling pods

it's the season of tiny crowns & catkins & blossoms

the morning light evokes a joyful sigh

as trees regain their leaves & tulips begin to bud -

above the weeping willow trees, the sky blues -

it's season of tiny crowns & catkins & blossoms

Posted for dVerse Poets Pub - OpenLinkNight.  Join us with your 1 poem when the pub doors open at 3pm EST.

Our city is bursting with cherry blossoms trees, magnolia trees and catkins from the weeping willow trees.  Outside my "office", the birds are building their nests (under the balcony), and the ravens have returned.  I love the spring season.

summer & winter

I.

here is an assortment of shells

pink, white, coral, and bones

it holds

sunlit days, rippled tides of spells:

shark's eye, cones, conch, small stones -

king's gold

on a clear fish bowl filled with sands -

amber smooth as chai tea

i sigh

for beaches & summer's long hands

when the sky is so blue

i fly

II.

we watch snowflakes spill - glass flowers

on barren fields & woods

calling

we gather light from short hours -

wicks, lamps & yellowed goods

falling

finally the moon is ours-

darkness is a cocoon

wrapping

midnight sky with mulberry stars-

silvering trees, we swoon

clapping

The above is the example in the dVerse Poets Pub post.

the (uni)verse

why do we allow the frivolous to rust

our mind and spark ill thoughts to stain the night

have we forgotten, we're born of stardust

shaped from the turmoils of black wind's gust

scattering seeds to birth trees & wings to flight

why do we allow the frivolous to rust

our heart to stone, busy with erecting a gold bust

believing in our immortal blight

have we forgotten, we're born of stardust

sundered or whole, we will return to dust

our buildings & crowns will be lost bight

why do we allow the frivolous to rust

our will to froth instead of passion & lust

our warmth to ice, becoming a ghost of sprite

have we forgotten, we're born of stardust

even if we have lost sight of sun's cradled fire

inside us is an imperishable light

why do we allow the frivolous to rust

us, have we forgotten, we're born of stardust

november

creeps in, a foggy morning

a blur of maple & birch

leaves are falling into heap

weaving colorful & soft bed

do you recall the burning

fires of dawn, or the time we

went bazaar shopping for cheap

clothes, munching on sugar bread

but your face is blank, warning

me that your memories are

sliding into deeper sleep-

this is something we long dread-

in overcoming mourning

you forget - life is now - leap!

Time in a Loop

I lean into the summer light

With a whiff of yesterday's song

Heat was sweltering, our palms sweaty

Figuring out where's the exit, under all the confetti

Confetti strips on my lashes,

Lashes wet from rain, weight of blues

Blues polished under the silver moon

Moon is grand but a stoic muse

I gave him nothing to reel & relish

All our memories crashed in the hard drive - perished

All my poems tossed in the black sand

We figured out that peace comes with heavy strands

Strands of shadows & rough greys

Greys in rainbows after the quick storms

Storm of hail lulls, with the burst of afternoon sun

Sunroom, where it all started like a dream

We now wander in circles, ever widening

Our calendars out of sync, tides are running

In a knot of missed hitches, time is a loop

You and I mirror, yesterday in a swoop

Note:  This is a variation of Loop Poetry.  The other ones are:

I.   Summertime in Ontario

Yesterday’s cold dusted in a blink

Blink, and the minute turns

Turns to long hour, my eyes

Eyes the clock, sun burns

Morning air is humid, crackles

Crackles turn to birdsongs

Birdsongs break the crisp hum, hush

Hush! where’s the rain, so far along

Evening paints a peach cooler time

Time is patient as sugar maple trees

Trees so vibrant green, summer is a toast

Toast to begonias, blue sky, buzzing bees!

II.  Weekdays in a blur

Monday {yawns} opens the door to Tuesday

Tuesday rushes in, fluffs the pillows for Wednesday

Wednesday offers ice wine & hot gossip to Thursday

Thursday laps it all up, in cruise control, awaiting Friday

Friday is in a pink party mood, dancing until early Saturday

Saturday is in no hurry, lounging in pajamas until Sunday

Sunday is <lost>in book & clouds, forgetting time & Monday

Fast fry to the jazz beat

 gather the weekday's leftovers

(dish with clovers)

here's the pan

we have no plan

to tarry this rib of cured meat

turn up the heat

with seasoned salt

veggies will waltz

with red onions, shrimps & noodles

we'll make doodles

here, there; let's eat

leisurely beat

Blessings

With my thick mittens & woollen socks,

I settle to read your letters, warm

as redbush tea, toasted sweet corn bread

You bring spark, skylight, sugar bush smells

Gloomy rain clouds blur in festive hues

I become playful child, curious as snail

and I thank you, this morning* (again)

view of the lighthouse, she

wakes up early in the morning

light feet, folding neat her mourning

clothes, sunlight

flickers through the window, swelling

with strange joy of queen bee's dwelling-

the skylight

strokes her skin with sepia gunny

paints her dark-rimmed eyes with honey-

no floodlights

can dim her firm hands to move past

her grief & hold laughter to last-

the firelight

grows despite each stormy night, sure

as stern clock, she waits by the moor

with starlights

From the dVerse Poets Pub

moonlighting

i pull the curtains aside to

witness the glorious light, you brew

the moondust

over the bubbling sky, darkness

is poised, letting us string stillness

in moonbeams

under yellow maple trees, we

write poems, sip our tea and plea

with moonsongs

let the grey clouds wander & slip

let the lake waters rise & dip

the moonstones

shine our faces bright, stark blue

touch our feet with stars, we flew

with mooneyes
