Invisible

Am I the diminished tree in distance
Shaken by wind blows, bent in waning light
Empty of nests, gnarled in mute existence

Am I the fallen leaf in snow-bleached night
Solitary figure, cut out of frame
Abandoned by time, dying out of sight

Am I the buried book,  dame with lame name
To bellow brave exploits & loves, so lyrical
Stirring up grey eyes, a chanteuse proclaims

No, I refuse to be the invisible
Or silenced by brighter light, louder voice
I'm not just a chorus or syllable

My life is tapestry of songs, by choice
Woven of seasons & storms, growing rose

Poetry form:  Terza Rima where the sonnet is divided into 4 tercets and a couplet with the following rhyme scheme: ABA BCB CDC DED EE.

The title came from a conversation with a group of friends, having post Christmas dinner last Saturday night.  We were all comparing our Christmas holidays and getting updates  about how our children were doing.   During his family gathering, my friend statement was, "Have I become invisible?   I don't like it."

of tangerine dreams

i see your smile, shy-tangerine grin
behind the crab apple tree, sunset-stilled
you move slowly to pluck the ripe
bearing fruits, licked by summer rain

i taste wine & olives as i walk towards you
but you're turning to a blur, mist of clouds
my feet are turning to quicksand as
you fade away, dreamscape in a fog-

how quickly i forget, time has hidden you
from me- you, fiery fire of my canvas-
you, deepest blue lake of my thoughts-

every night, even with my eyes closed
i can trace your face with my fingertips,
my love, sleep, until we meet again-

Breathing in Blue

A trail of black birds, along the middle, dark blue line
@Grace

lift my feet above limestone cliffs
plume my wings of salty spray
crisp my tongue to hunger,  wild
is your call, gleaming of sun's fire

bring me far away and beyond
to this blue, dazzling of infinity
open my tired eyes, from smallness
to behold your eternal charm

not even shadows from forest
can destroy your artless guile
you soothe our fickle shallow lives
with steady rhythm, this is you-

breath of my heart, carved me blue
until your light, inside me, shines true

Sayuri-san

Behind bamboo wall
She powders her cheeks white
As wooden clogs bound her feet
How she dreams to be a bird
not a doll with cursed red lips

What lies beneath your wintered eyes
Are you hiding a jewel, black as pain
From a hundred lashes of an errant word?

What secrets guard your wide gold sleeves
when night comes spinning out of orbit?
Has bitterness tinged your blood to rust?

Here is the spark & grit of desire
Or would a venom of revenge be fair game?
Once, your laughter was raven’s delight
As you bargain with harvest moon for its tales-

Rise & dispel this silence of ghostly chant –
This dearth of burning fire & biting moths-
Press your red lips against the stone
Unbound your robe & step into light

in midst of autumn

when maple trees catch fire
so do my words conspire
to gather as grey crows
piercing dry sky in throes

why are lands snarled at war
when none can square the score
as more heads will rot, roll
i wear black gown for fall

my hand holds a feather
soft, when sewn together
can be blue shawl of peace
when will we learn to cease

using faith as charade
as each leaf turns red jade

Notes before leaving

                                                                                        © Isadora Gruye

If you should leave, don't make it on Sunday
When I'm baking chicken topped with butter-

Not on Friday, when I'm eager to come
home from work, drooping eyelids, aching thumbs-

Monday might be a good day, when my mind
dwells on unfinished work, like a sour rind -

Thinking of pay cheque by Thursday, time flies
       like a beggar, as I file & refile -

Instead, pack your bags on Tuesday after-
noon, when I'm drunk with paints, pens & verses-

Hands sag like autumn leaves,  forehead sweaty -
Outside, neglected plants sniffle on wet

Tissues, the lone tree snaps like rubber band -
I won't noticed that you are gone - as planned -

My journey

there are roads under the rising sun
which takes you beyond white painted signs,
cobbled streets, riddled with stones broken,
      pushing boundaries, shivering spines

there are some journeys that define you
mark creases deeply on your forehead
circle eyes in laughter lines and woes
seasons tongue of oils and garlic bread

here in my pale hands are the rice grains
to seed the grassland and cleave the soil
of words into trees. behold the rain,
sun and ocean, all new as i toil

each day, my spirit gathers firelight,
cadence, wheels and speed. bolder, i write
