January's blues

snowdrift hides dead flower shrubs and feathers

my hands are ice-numbed, knitted white, blued feathers

pine and fir trees weave their green lushness

lifting my spirits from gloom donning black feathers

sundial casts a long graceful shadow

while crescent moon rises with single feather

On butterfly wings

you open my eyes to beauty of wings

the sky is a wonder of light and wings

draw over my sadness with whiteness of snow,

my fears with fluttering of bold black wings

how the rain pours over wild forest-

spring will arrive, blazing, bagful of wings

paint the long summer days with bright orange

& yellow, symmetrical, silky wings

when autumn arrives, give me grace to fall

chest thrumming to wind's spell, breaking my wings

coaxing spring season

my mom forgets her thoughts, butterflies in flight

but not her prayers.  her rosary beads are bright as sunlight

where do you find yourself at end of the day

are you cradling a lady bug?  or do you stare at the moonlight ?

the shadows have their seasons too.*  filled with dead poets.

yellowing regretful sighs.   time to change curtains to spring light

i will etch the walls with songs.  with color.  with feathers.

because inside me, is cardinal, awaiting spring. with sky light

the white wall.  the blank page.  you stitch the emptiness

into fullness.  you are embroideried canvas & edged with light

Better than I am

Red lights at the distance flickers smoky flame
I inhale deeply - sunset's hues - dying flame

I swallow my pills & the last of my drink

as music echoes, I drift, waning flame

Moonlight gleams on my ordinary face

Anxieties mothballing, snaring flame

I might look better if you dim down lights

To candle tap, softer flowering flame

There are nights I despair, fretting in shame

But you give me hope, fierce as warrior's flame

My dreams bring me wading out to the sea

Weaving a storm, my hands are birthing flames

You gaze at me with grace & breathless awe

Here I am, better than I am - divining flames
