early autumn

the maple leaves are changing hues-

cranberry, ochre, toffee, velvet, ember

all radiant from the cool wind-no blues

to witness the dying summer blooms

i marvel the maple leaves changing hues

exploding  from green to colors to tickle

the fancy of poets & nourish the muses

of artists.   imagine the harvest of sun-dried

fallen leaves on your hands & feet - whose

jolly idea was it to engulf you with earthly wishes-

maple trees are yielding (like myself), changing hues-

early autumn

We walk on a few fallen red maple leaves.  It is still in the early fall season as most of trees have their leaves.   The leaves have started to change colors to pink lemonade, beige and honey, forming a delightful umbrella versus the grey sky.  We talk about how quickly summer time has passed as it was suddenly my dad's 5th death anniversary in September.   Time has softened the memories into an old movie projector and I can pick out the reels with happier and carefree times.  Soon, our footsteps lead us to a river, flowing with rhythmic beat to the wind.

beneath the glass sky,

leaves spark a fire of colors-

river ripples, ducks-

Autumn's afternoon

sky is stirring a broth

of thunderclaps

& cumulonimbus clouds

mellowing the street lights

with muddy shade

of autumn

ground is mulched

with dead

annuals & grooved twigs

too deep to smooth over

with yesterday's sun-

shine songs

instead we tally

each falling

late summer

meet me under the apple trees

bulging with greening fruits & berries bold

as afternoon sun rusts the skylight

as the maple leaves amber gold

i breathe in - scents of late summer roses,

fading mint leaves, seedheads fluffy & white

as the maple leaves amber gold

as afternoon sun rusts the skylight

clock chimes into early autumn

i watch shadows lengthen & fold

as afternoon sun rusts the skylight

as the maple leaves amber gold

let's ramble the road with daisies

and swap stories as birds on flight

as the maple leaves amber gold

as afternoon sun rusts the skylight
