November

The leaves are speckled yellow gold

Scattering dust on field, so cold

Where is the summer sun's chatter

As sky turns grey and lake iced blue

Birds and bees have flown away, true

Late autumn serves harvest platter

Filled with melancholy.   Night clings

Of ripeness.   Awaiting sweet sting

Of last breaths.  How you live matters

Autumn Sky

when cold wind settles, blanket

of paraffin wax

on sogging stalks

                             & petals

i throw my words up in the air

& see how some turn to russet,

   gold

& pumpkin yellow

my eyes see                the magic

fleeting sunburst

              magnetic pull of

                                    autumnal light

Food for the soul

red maple leaves

blazing fire & frisson

feed

this simple soul

quiet space is growing

as autumn grips the sky

copper & russet

we fall

on bed warmed by hikes

our footprints invisible

by dying sun

autumn burn

autumn leaves
darkening eyes, wind-curled blades

on pathway, fallen from
maple trees

one by one
i tread with gratefulness

i'll (always) remember how you
torch the sky with brilliant orange hues

your rust-yellow fingers
quivering with fire & sundust

my eyes are blinded
by beauty

of what glitters at night

October glitters of roads
dusty
Of fallen maple leaves
yellow
as  roasted plump pumpkin
brown
as burnt paprika and sugared
cinnamon

Days fold quickly into heavy
silence
I tend to my secret
sorrows
Brushing them with moon-
light
They gleam ... an early first snow-
drop

Late autumn

The northern wind whips autumn trees to fray
Under clouds of grey, plum maple leaves stray
Strands of willow, brambles of berries roil
Faded petals - all pressed smooth in rich soil

A leavening, softening cold canvas
Of bare gardens, draped in dew-glazed sadness
I sleep buried under warm blankets, fluffy
Clasping handful of seeds, golden honey

Blowin' In The Wind

when the sky is a sphinx
and my eyes are misted grey

how many times must I fall
before I walk in my own shoes

when the road is unmarked
and scarred by stones & thick tubers

how many times must I question
before I am swept away to the sea

when all the answers are blowing
in the wind, rolling beyond my grasp

I listen deep to the drumbeats
of trees, shimmering in golden jade

and marvel the arc of falling leaves
bowing to the wind
