Ode to a breakfast (with mangoes)

they dressed you in cream

heavy fluffed in butter cake

drizzled in chocolate syrup

but i love you best

freshly plucked

from tree

my hands scooping your flowering-

green-eyed by rain

skin yellowed as papaya

with plump flesh

sliced flat across the seed-

a blend of tangy sweet as jasmine & citrus

halved, quartered & diced

you bring the sun's warm

belly within you

here's my young legs racing towards

the smell of unsweetened chocolate brew,

the steam of rolled sticky rice

mellowed in coconut milk

with a dash of salt

wrapped

in slender palm leaves,

with ripe mangoes

my mornings are gifts from tropical land

Ode to an avocado

dressed with lemon,
garlic, olive oil & mustard-
a chef's delight

but i like you best
bare
sliced open under rough snake
skin
velvet ripe & creamy
belly

drizzled with sugar
& cold milk,
bowled dessert
of indolent summer days

plump smooth,

slivers of ambrosia
your taste is only rivaled
by my other childhood memory-

cloistered nuns
making candied purple yams
stirring over
& over
flaming giant pan until
rough fibers turn sin-

fully lush
as nectar oil

decadent food
for gods
hand-bottled for sale in market -

pear-shaped
your green womb
wraps me tight like seed
coconut-shaped

pining for tropical sun-

melting snowflakes

Winter turns me into a grouch
Keeping words & sweets to myself

I scribble quickly on used paper
As if each letter holds a secret 🔑

The garden outside is a dull statue
As if a thief has stolen all the blooms

As if a baker has thrown all the flour
On table, forgetting measuring cups & left

In a huff, leaving the nuts
to squirrels and nothing for the birds 🐦

Not even his secrets
Was it fresh cinnamon stick or extra lemon

Zest & twist
That made these sweets tinglinG butterY

Warm on my hands...
Melting snowflakes, drawing  😁   😉   😤    😍    💗    💋

Hungry eyes

The recipe is not a secret as we got the recipe from the internet.  My hubby concentrates on preparing the finely ground beef with garlic, sprinkling of soy sauce and red wine.   He mixes the meat with vegetables- carrots and peas, with tomato paste.  I concentrate on peeling, boiling and mashing the potatoes with butter and cream.  In the pyrex, he layers the cooked meat and vegetables carefully.  I pile up the mashed and creamy potatoes, until the pyrex is filled up.    It is ready to be baked crisp as Shepherd's pie.

It's the teamwork that makes it delicious.  I can make a dish tastier that this but its all my effort.  When it comes to cooking, making it together makes the dish extra special.

hungry eyes of the moon-
spring trees blossom with
flowering pink scents
