the balancing act

Right side of me
Weaved & staggered like a leaf
Caught in a summer storm-

After washing dirty cups left the previous night
Wiping sink & bathtub free of suds & grime
After picking up clothes & socks on the floor
Folding & ironing clothes with tenacity of a turtle
After you grumbled like a bear while doing laundry

While balancing children's activities around my hips
I drive to and from my work in the city
While buying groceries you had forgotten to buy
I think of paying the home bills
While sharpening the knife in preparing tonight's dinner

Left side of me
Blanched & melted, indelible ink
   Blue, weight of the mountain

Squeak NOT a protest

the g-r-o-a-n-i-n-g
was so LOUD,
an old man
yoked by his burden,
grasping for a/i/r-

i will do something about it,
hubby said

the next morning, after setting
the clothes to dry, i {wait}
for the sounds--
hum~drum~hum~drum~hum~
a mild protest
akin to the wind, wearily blowing
dry the soggy fields--

i ask my hubby what he did,
knowing his knack for youtube search-
how:to:repair:anything?:

well, i had a conversation w/
the dryer--

he began-
i already fiXed the water pipe,

then with a [gentle]
kick on its side-

do NOT give me any #problems !!!

Folding the clothes

On the bed, newly dry socks
- scatter like colored marbles -

Collarless shirts meditate
- which one goes to which one -

But folded always, once and twice
- they quiet down, like sleepy children -

Even big towels fall into predictable squares
- shorts, into smaller squares -

Pants fold and greet themselves,
- while undergarments relax, deflated balloons -

Office shirts wrinkle in sleep
- buttons exchange gossips across hangers -

This is close to a zen moment
- neat piling and tidy tucking in drawers -

Almost like raked stones in Japanese garden,
- before they tumble down like storm clouds -
