I.
an onion peel
lashing the eyes
brining old wounds
at every heartless note
left behind
II.
a bay leaf
spicing the chicken dish
with (he)artful ardor
on a dreary winter night
III.
a red paper
light as dragonfly wings
with deep pockets
to keep and count
pebbles, seeds, nuts, heart-
struck kisses-
IV.
under the tree
red-breasted birds sing
their hearts clovering the field-
an open invitation
V.
words twining with eclipses
spaces with liquid memory
punctuating against white canvas-
the heart of me
