we are clouds, rain
and storms
rushing through tracks
and roads
aspiring to be strong
as trees and resilient
as lake-
our elders want
us to leap
barriers and buidings
but this sum-
mer, we are flow-
ers, yellow-gold , slow-
stitching in bee-laden garden
& finding ourselves

My kind of summer.☺️
ReplyDeleteA stunning summer quadrille, Grace; I identify with the ‘clouds, rain and storms’, and with ‘aspiring to be strong as trees and resilient as lake’. My favourite lines:
ReplyDelete‘…we are flow
-ers, yellow-gold , slow-
stitching in bee-laden garden’.
"finding ourselves"
ReplyDeleteYES! What a perfect description of what summer is FOR, resting, blooming where planted, finding myself. LOVE this, Grace.
de
"slow-
ReplyDeletestitching in bee-laden garden" is the epitome of summer's pace, Grace
Lovely verse of nature, hiding deeper meaning, revealed by the end..lovely

ReplyDeleteOh, this is lovely. "& finding ourselves" Yes.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem Grace.
ReplyDeleteSlow stitching in a bee laden garden and finding ourselves...nothing better than that, a lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteI like the pauses and images in your poem, Grace. :)
ReplyDeleteThis made me think of the pop music in the 1960s espousing enjoying the beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYes, summer should be slow, contemplative, a time for observing, not rushing aimlessly.
ReplyDeleteA reminder to slow and savor what we have of summer. Beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteOoh, that last stanza! Slowing down to spend time with nature is the best way to appreciate seasons. Lovely, Grace.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful quadrille of resilience-in-summer, Grace! I love the opening metaphor: "we are clouds, rain / and storms / rushing through tracks / and roads," each in our own way indeed.
ReplyDeleteI love the flow of this, the staccato line breaks (sum - mer!) the sense of flitting through the world with so much to see
ReplyDeleteTruly lovely Grace, with such economy of line and words...
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful, Grace. This made my evening.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
David
