Sun, moon

Sun Photography by Alan Friedman

Sun

Star, you're the faithful one
stirring our eyes to fire
shaping seeds to ripe fruits.
Speak to us as a sage:
steadfast, calm, so we may
swaddle your heat through each
sky storm splitting the land

Moon Photography by Alan Friedman

Moon

Moon, cast your magic spell-
moonshine above the trees
milk pearled, dreamt  by poets
marveling you. Some nights
myth turns you to a monk
meandering the space
muting the sky, stone grey.

  9. Excellent rendering of the prompt, like you have been writing in this form for years. I dug the Moon poem best as well. I considered writing two or three of these, since they are so short, but alas, I stifled the urge, & went with naked brevity.

  15. TWO poems, you clever girl! I addressed a heavenly body too, just posted it now. I especially love your moon poem - and the muted colors in it. Beautiful. I love the image of the moon as a wandering monk. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Enjoyed both, but ah, there is something special about that moon, loved the line
    "moonshine above the trees"
"Moonshine" can literally moonlight, or the other definition of an "intoxicating beverage," the effect it seems to have on all of us poets & writers!

  20. This is lovely, Grace...I like the way you have given equal 'star billing' to both the sun AND the moon.

  26. Our faithful star! and our magic moon! I'm glad you didn't call moon inconstant! I love that the sun stirs and swaddles, that heat and fire are calm and wise. A perfect pairing, Grace.

  28. You packed a lot into a few lines! What a good thought, to use those initial letters at other places in the poems too.

  29. I especially like the first, Grace, as it felt like such a great conceit to me. But both are lovely and great for the prompt. K.

  34. These are fantastic. They flow really well and you can't tell that they don't feel like they were forced to stay within the rules of this type of poem. Well done.

  35. Grace - these are lovely. The sun as sage is wonderful and I am a sucker for a great moon poem! Beautiful!

  36. "milk pearled, dreamt  by poets
    marveling you."

Really strong metaphors in this. Love the description of the sun. My favorite lines are about the moon.

  37. Loved both sun and moon - but your depiction of the sun as simply another star is important. Reminds us that we are in a vast, unimaginable universe. Also, the image looked like felt or candy floss, which was in itself quite cool! Sorry I have not been around. Art is taking over my life (and office), plus the usual "art of the mind," the labyrinth... Peace, Amy

  38. Loved both of these...so beautifully depicted...the yin and yang of the skies.

  39. So creative approach, Grace! I really feel happy while reading and after too. My fav. in "Sun" the line 'sky storm splitting the land'. In "Moon" it's ' Some nights
myth turns you to a monk' ~...thank you

  40. "some nights myth turns you to a monk"--what an imaginative way of thinking of the moon...beautiful.
