The gift came with instructions

She gave us a gift in box: packets of seeds

Bearing various shapes - bird's feet, fish's eyes, clouds, bones

Holding the promise of fruits from caring deeds

We took the storms, thoughtless insults and sharp stones

That came our way. Instead we made maps, beads

of peace, stories from forests, lakes and pine cones-

Our one voice echoed with other voices

Our two hands multiplied with calm choices

What we could not imagine, happens:   kindness

Rooting, growing, removing our blindness

Spreading from home to home, this gift that binds us

  1. This is absolutely exquisite, Grace! I especially admire; "We took the storms, thoughtless insults and sharp stones that came our way. Instead we made maps, beads of peace, stories from forests, lakes and pine cones."❤️❤️

  2. I have a theory- I don't think those that truly love and appreciate nature could ever be intentionally unkind. You poem is so beautiful Grace.

  4. Wonderful work indeed, Grace. I'll probably give this form a shot (little too busy right now, though).
I esp like the "beads of Peace". I'm still wearing an original Hippie 'love bead' which I donned over half a century ago.
I thought you might enjoy this (an inverted tanka)...

  5. The gifts of nature ought to be shared. It's a shame not everyone wants to be bothered. Lovely idea.
