saturday's weathertide

we make merry of gloom

        -folding cards with red-bowed

                      tinsel-

but howling wind shakes

trees with vengence

for some minutes,

         -lights were out-

all house's hollows, nooks

lost its s

             h

                a

                  p

bleeding into darkness

         -our eyes fog, blind-

but for half-moon

    glittering silverblue

  1. We were out of power as well last week, and it really showed me how dark it can be... so good that you at least could find that half-moon...

  2. I saw that gorgeous half moon. The winds were relentless and your poem brought beauty in the end.
Funny story....on Saturday, during the worst of the wind, we looked outside to find a canoe in our backyard. We don't own a canoe. Wish I had seen it airborne from the neighbour's yard!
    Thanks for your lovely poem.

  3. Oh, the shape of this poem really adds to the disorientation. Winter nights are so dark.

  4. Grace, what would we do without the moon and snow in wintertime to light the way? Power outages always make me cringe. I think it's the silence more than the dark that gets to me.

Wonderful opening Grace, amidst the restrictions of winter time. Good to be reminded we can change things for the better despite it all.
