A Painter Without A Brush

the brush is a mongrel moon

a sop of soap stone, lump of foolish

grains in my hands, grey from winter

my fingertips are callous

unfeeling of any rhythm on canvas

i am slumbering shadow of dust

among the fine selections of books in garden

the sun brings a jingle of spring's eyes

as bouquet of wildflowers for the first

time & i am enamored with torrential clouds

of hues, shapes & hollows & tangent of words, whorls

of verses, as if famished, i drink it slowly

colors infuse & thrum, sharp as limes & lemons

my lips are basted by magenta & saffron spice

uncorked, honeycomb drips unabashed on ground

bees alight in morning blush of dewdrop

as if i am apricot tulip, budding rosy

a new day, i

am

  1. Oh my goodness, Grace. This is beautiful. I had a hard time picking my favorite lines....that brush as a mongrel moon...
but I think these are my favorites:

"colors infuse & thrum, sharp as limes & lemons
my lips are basted by magenta & saffron spice
uncorked, honeycomb drips unabashed on ground

These lines are so descriptive and actually quite delicious!

  2. I agree, this is absolutely OUTSTANDING, Grace!💝 So much to love here especially; "i am enamored with torrential clouds of hues, shapes & hollows & tangent of words, whorls of verses, as if famished, i drink it slowly
    colors infuse & thrum." *swoon*😍

  3. entrancing and magical your artwork Grace. I felt giddy just reading those glorious colour lines
"colors infuse & thrum, sharp as limes & lemons

  4. I think this title is going to be very popular, Grace, and the responses are going to be fantastic. I love your poem, the alliteration in ‘mongrel moon’ and ‘sop of soap stone’, the use of colour and the way these lines almost tumble off my screen:
‘colors infuse & thrum, sharp as limes & lemons
my lips are basted by magenta & saffron spice
uncorked, honeycomb drips unabashed on ground’,
and the image of those bees alighting in ‘’morning blush of dewdrop’!

  5. I love what you did with the title... I sense that the brush has been a prison, and the season before you let go with the spring and passion, without the shackles of canvas and brush

  6. The imagery of spring overtaking the "painter" is just so lovely, a palette of colors, emotions, renewal and life.

  9. You had me at Stanza 1, Grace, and I drooled all the rest of the way through. Outstanding creation.

  10. I love this! Like Lillian I am struggling to pick a favourite line. I think the final stanza for the way you wrapped it up. I love the ethereality of it all!

  11. this work is super tantalising, and that last stanza so beautifully hopeful ... such a pleasure to read!

this is so exquisite that it inspired me to write a poetic response 24 hours ago now ... but twice my comments have been gobbled up by the system!

  12. This is a very lovely piece Grace. The imagery of the garden as the new day breaks is captivating. The shadow of dust and uncorked honey are great!

  13. This is rich and full of depth, texture, and color. A most beautiful write Sanaa. I’ve been sidelined by my flaring arthritic fingers, so I am late reading everyone’s work.

Great rendition Grace! Hank often has the confusion feel when viewing an abstract. Yes, it must be viewed slowly1

  15. If you're talking about a God in 3 Divine
Persons - Father, Son, Holy Spirit, you're
RIGHT ON!!! However, if you're talking bout
the nefarious demons who rule this world
right now before d'Second Coming of Christ,
I must disagree: you must find that brush
AND paint!!! For without Jesus, we have
absolutely NADA. ZILCH. NIL. NYET when we
pass-away but a whole in tbe ground with
our name. This should help IF you can read
beeeTween the lines and I know you can cuzz
