Wings

you stride with your walking stick
left to right, left to right, along corners
up the stairs & alleys
along subway doors

i can't imagine what you may not see-
not this winter season full of greys
but the magic of spring
you
young gazelle,
raising your face to raindrops

i know you believe in angels
though
you see, i see not one, not two but many
hands, including myself
reining you from falling onto the tracks
guiding you along
wishing you nothing but good
tidings
along your journey

white hawk on tree
silent sentinel on the watch-
my morning, a gift-

Posted for dVerse OpenLinkNight.   Happy Thanksgiving to our US friends!  Thanks for joining in when the pub doors open at 3pm EST.

  1. This is such a wonderful scene, so fitting for Thanksgiving.. wonderful that people actually are helpful, and that stick is a strong signal... and I feel almost that the blind is blessed, seeing only the spring instead of the grey.

  3. This is so beautiful Grace, it is lovely to see so much kindness in the world. I especially love these lines:
'you see, i see not one, not two but many
    hands, including myself
reining you from falling onto the tracks
    guiding you along
    wishing you nothing but good
    tidings'

    raising your face to raindrops”

    Love this also:

    “white hawk on tree
    silent sentinel on the watch”

    Happy holidays, Grace.

  6. If only all journeys were filled with just the good tidings, but then we wouldn't know the good without the bad.

  10. Your poem-haibun is so tender and delicate, Grace, with the ‘winter season full of greys’, a face raised to raindrops, and the idea of angels hands guiding someone along their journey. As Bjorn says, it's a scene fitting for Thanksgiving.

  11. A grandchild? No, someone a little enfeebled? No. Either way, could thought about the real angels in our lives

  17. I like the comparison of the angels to the many hands.

  18. It is not unusual for "us" to aid "them" and in the attempt to become angels. The analogy, for me, works best with parents helping their moderately aged children out of the nest,
