unfinished

not river flowing but shallow pool
       of dewdrops
not colorless but midnight cocoon
       under strawberry moon
not restlessness of wild season but slow
       spring fire bubbling underneath

silence is my companion
       not noise or music
as i edit, shape and refashion
       this canvas
never complete nor empty
       ... just unfinished

  1. I love where the prompt took you to that unfinished part of us... the canvas we are, that we can always improve.

  2. I agree with Bjorn. The part of us that is always improving, morphing. We are truly works in progress.

  3. Agree with Bjorn and Toni. You blend these images to allude to a mystery of truth so much deeper than they suggest. Growth is always possible.

  4. A life's canvas... brush strokes and stipples the minutes and the years. Beautiful!

  5. So much to add and much gets taken away, always changing indeed.

  6. I enjoyed reading this several times over - the potentiality is like a dragonfly nymph - especially the colour

  7. Just unfinished, life is a work in progress...and that canvas will be filled with a mixture of experiences.

  8. Beautifully said Grace. It is the story of most of our lives I think. It's never quite a finished landscape, just the blobs and blotches of living one day after another. Well written!

  9. Love your self-description. You are a true artist...never satisfied with your work. Sometimes you just have to stop and let it be...become what ever it is...

  10. I agree with all the comments above. We are miracles in the making--flawed, but necessary miracles.

  11. "Just unfinished," isn't that how it is always? I liked the idea of a strawberry moon and the silence for companion. It's peaceful and calm. Very well-penned.

  12. A thorough sketch of life, as finished as it's unfinished. Beautifully done.

  13. Beautiful.....never finished....our every-changing landscape, our ever-changing self.
"not colorless but midnight cocoon" especially loved this image.

  14. Unfinished, like questions, opens to something, not closed, like finished, or answers.

  15. Oh, those things unfinished. I have a few of those, partially on paper, partially still in my mind. As I read this, in front of my house a large cat digs up the street for a new sewer line. They were supposed to be finished on 6/22. I hope that project doesn't remain unfinished for long.

  16. I really love the last stanza, especially "never complete nor empty
... just unfinished." This makes me think of an ever evolving creation.
    I enjoy your poems.

  17. I like the ending with the canvas being unfinished not empty.

  18. Nothing wrong with being unfinished, Grace, it leaves room to add new experiences, patterns and beauty - as in this poem, especially:
'not restlessness of wild season but slow
    spring fire bubbling underneath'.

  19. Strawberry moon, Love that! Original, and colorful. Beautiful poem. I totally agree that both we, and our poems are always unfinished, and changing (if that's what you meant) Also the thought of bubbling underneath resonates with me. Glad I read!

  21. “You’re Finished “ is actually a threatening phrase. Being Unfinished is more hopeful. Vera nice ☺️
