What is the c?lor

of the sky
when the heart is feverish moon
grasping for air, refusing to fade in fire-
storm?

of his eyes
when thoughts are noosed in bullets
and every step is unanswered
question?

of the rain
when flood gates open, unmarking
borders, valleys & keys, leveling roofs to
pebbles?

of the sunrise
on the farthest side of galaxy
is it apricot or apple, behind cloudy mist?
or is it a mirror of emptiness, abandoned by dying
stars?

of my pen
when I forget syllables & taste of
pecan tarts & smell of wild red plum
wine?

  1. As in what we see or not, color could be a lot.

  2. What a wonderful palette of questions... really love what you did it, and the theme of colors works so well... I cannot really pick a favorite, but the colors of fruits at the end of the galaxy touched me.

  3. Lovely questions..especially like the last one...

  4. Hi Grace, I was wondering what you'd be writing tonight - as, unlike me you can be so versatile. This has a lovely, fresh pace to it in your usual vivid style. Enjoyed it very much...

  5. In the first place I like the flow of this poem without the prepositions. I kept wanting to read them anyway and at second read happily let them go. Great structure.

  6. The texture of colors that you've blended so well within your poetic content is remarkable breath-taking and wonderfully expressed. :)

  7. Lovely, Grace. My favorite is the question about the sunrise on the other side of the galaxy...love that!

  11. I was touched by each question--and each seemed to hold its own answers

  12. Love the ending. Put all these things to the taste of "pecan tarts & smell of wild red plum wine"

  13. Grace. I had to pause at the rain, so much rain this week, leveling roofs to pebbles. My heart grieves for the loss and destruction.

  14. "What is the color of the sunrise on the other side of the galaxy"? That's a question to ponder on. I like that question. Have to find out some day

  15. Question everything? I? Wonder at tarts? Them in pecan colored skirts do they taste plum wine with red lips? There must be a beauty in the grinding, no? It is well met in the imagery you emit Grace.

  16. I love the blending of colours and questions, Grace, where no colours are mentioned and the reader can allow the imagination to run riot. I also like the way each stanza runs on from the title, giving it a form the reader can engage with - they can be read in any order. The stanza that caught my attention was
    '... of my pen
when I forget syllables & taste of
pecan tarts & smell of wild red plum
    wine?'
It grabs all the senses :)

  19. Once I figured out the c?lor part I was away. Love how it takes you through a wonderous stanza then sends you back up to come down again to view another and ponder your own answers.

  20. Lovely, intriguing, questions with unattainable answers, complex yet flowing like a poetic comet from the personal to the cosmic & back, Yes, your last stanza was killer--your poems are tightrope walkers between the sensual & metaphysical; big smile.

  21. "storm?
    of his eyes
when thoughts are noosed in bullets"
    "is it apricot or apple"
    "of my pen
when I forget syllables & taste of
pecan tarts & smell of wild red plum"

    Radiant.

  28. Beautiful questions! I especially love the line "when the heart is feverish moon"

  29. It's how we see it. Life is beautiful.

  30. I don't know what that color would be, but when the heart ceases to be feverish the sky likely becomes blue again.

  31. A set of questions that make you wonder.. esp the color of sunrise at the other end of the universe! Also, what's the color of the forgetful poets pen?

    ReplyDelete
  32. And every poet each sees a different set of colours, yet every set is equally beautiful.

  33. when thoughts are noosed in bullets... That's such a powerful image.
