Take one: a free map

this darkness will pass, sudden rain storm-
let's ride out, you and i

where dawn is a well
we're freely drawing with icy breath
see light chattering,
piercing

through winter fog-
filling pockets, trunks, buckets full-

let's link hands, ink-pressed with map of stars

  19. I love the invitation to take a free map, which hooked me immediately, and the idea of dawn as a well where you can draw different kinds of weather. I love the pace of the poem, which leaves the reader breathless until that final invitation:

'let's link hands, ink-pressed with map of stars'

    How could anyone refuse?
