A Canadian Feast

lead me
where the tree is a cathedral
of colors
and the sky is a river of light

where simple joys
outshine any shadows of sorrow
stain the forest floor with
fat cheeks of ferns,
wild lips of flowers,
& poised coats of mushrooms

that I may see the
wisdom
of your brown-weathered palms-
that I may rest on your
bosom of green
and roots of serenity-

ink my pen
with dew and seed pods
from your autumn harvest

for today is a feast
of thankfulness for this good earth

  2. A good feast to lie eyes on indeed, as well as the one where we eat at our sea.

  4. I am quite breathless with this gorgeousness. I started to pick a favorite line, and then decided the cutting and pasting was unnecessary. The whole thing is divine. Thank you for this (early for this American) Thanksgiving feast.

  5. A dive poetic Autumn celebration. I love the lines /where the tree is a cathedral/of colors/. I need to look up the history of Canada's Thanksgiving; probably different from ours.

  14. Your poem is a true Canadian feast, Grace! Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for such a gorgeous poem and image. I love the phrase 'the tree is a cathedral / of colors'. Where we grew up there was a tree that was easy to climb because the branches grew round the tree like stairs and we called it the Cathedral! I also love the lines:
    'stain the forest floor with
    fat cheeks of ferns,
    wild lips of flowers,
    & poised coats of mushrooms'
    and
    'ink my pen
    with dew and seed pods
    from your autumn harvest'.
