Soup for today

a maple leaf falls
on bench, wind-swirled, sun-creased
I heard a leap of faith

Grace @ Everyday Amazing

I inhale autumn's air
it is melancholy lilt as sun
browns the last leaf to gold
and russet

I gather fallen cones
cold as red-winged feather
along with decayed blooms
scented with rain

I brace myself for winter's
onslaught but today, i inhale
crisp air deeply like a warm
freshly bubbled soup

  1. Oh I love a feeling of such weather.. here all leaves have fallen, so the branches are bare... but i love the feeling of holding on to that last golden leaf

  4. Fall with winter in the wings, has been a popular & prevalent Muse for many of us recently; lots of gray chill & piles of colorful corpses out there on the trail. I like your poetic take on things because there is a kinder co-existence with the season, less rancor, embracing the smoothness between the barbs. I like the lines /I gather fallen cones/cold as red-winge feather/.

  7. Such a wonderful poem Grace.

    My favorite lines:

    I gather fallen cones
    cold as red-winged feather
    along with decayed blooms
    scented with rain

    Truly magnificently put. :)

  8. I love the line "I heard a leap of faith" in your opening haiku. I too notice your acceptance of your weather even though your winters are fierce to say the least. But in general it seems you have a positive outlook on life...and the seasons. It's quite admirable, Grace.

  9. Brrrr, I know that winter is approaching...and I brace myself as well...but inhaling that autumn air deeply is perhaps what one should do to appreciate even the chill of the season.

  15. Smiles.. i suppose a dreadful
    frozen winter is just
    'cause to appreciate
    the other seasons
    so much more..
    where memories
    perhaps are more
    likely stored in change
    of seasons instead of
    just two or less seasons
    where i live.. smiles again..
there is only one for me
    now in
    Spring..
    no matter
    where the
    band of me rings..;)

  16. Such a lovely poem about fall. So many glorious images in this. The cones and then....the air like warm freshly bubbled soup...I inhale that aroma put together from all the elements of this poem. That aroma leads me home and gives me comfort.

  17. The opening haiku is especially beautiful and daring - it really made me sit up and notice. The warm and rich images in the rest of the poem also fit in well with the season and the theme.
