Spring's blessings

cherry blooms in pink
rain-scented, suckling soil's deepest light
I'm carried away to sky

~0~0~

Today when the trees pink & rise
     with spring's first step
Today when afternoon sun flirts
with the lilac & lemon tulips
Today when the hawk catches the tail
     wind of rain-clouds
Today when someone I love is slowly dying
and when someone I don't know is dying
Today when someone steps away from the past
and opens the door to a new journey
When the oranges ripen, fragrant
as long stem roses in a green vase
Let the beauty of this day come inside
resting its head on your chest
As a child with a mother does, as they silently
watch the robins weave their nests-
Let its fierceness and tenderness hold you
Let its vastness be undisguised in all your days

  13. This is one of my favorite poems of yours, Grace. So much takes place each 'today' of our life...and your poem reminds us to think about and appreciate what 'is.' I am sure your son's wedding will be a wonderful occasion.

  14. A celebration of life - your poem has it. The beauty of life is not only in the positive but as well on the not-so-positive aspects.

  23. for me cherry blossoms always shout hope - so much beauty to take in - it is tough to see someone you love slowly dying... all the difficult things and the beautiful things seem to be interwoven... even more in spring

  27. I will take this "today" and gladly--I've been thirsty for a Grace poem! Being lifted with petal to sky is gorgeous. My favorite though is the oranges' fragrance as amazing as long stemmed roses! Everything is a gift leading to the nest. Happy Mother's Day.

  28. This is wonderful Mother's Day poem, Susan. From my point of view, there is a day when those head on the chest loving motions change to a standing hug. It's just as welcome.

  39. All the best to your son on his wedding. That is a big step for your family. Spring is a time of renewal, but even renewal has its flip side. The fierceness and the tenderness -- often it is all wrapped into one.

  43. Well crafted poem with so much beauty and meaning. A man stepping from the past and starting a new journey is something to ponder about when spring brings new life and hope.

I was distressed to read that some one you know is dying and some one you don't know is dying because death is common factor in all seasons. What ever the season people have to die.

But a child with a mother watching the robins weave a nest is a sure sign continuity and hope.

Life is certainly filled with beauty, death and hope.

    Best wishes
