Winter Solstice

Dead leaves, apple seeds, roots of darkness
Gather and wrap us in fleece
Our skin is wintering white of stars
Dead leaves, apple seeds, roots of darkness
Turn your cheek where sun stands still
Our eyes beg for sky glazing of leaves

~ Wishing you all Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays ~

  3. There is definite beauty in this season, though it can be harder for people to see because it is sometimes hidden. Lovely work!

  4. Actually this is so much like yesterday. We had a clear day and went for a long walk right into the sunset, and then home to the comfort of being inside,
Have a great Holiday, and many thanks for the past year.

  9. Musical, mystical, and full of the dark and the light that make this ambiguous season--may it be a happy one for you Grace--thank you for your gift of warmth and words.

  11. This is such a beautiful chant, Grace. I can see the dead leaves stirring in the dark, moving around and becoming part of the things that will bring spring...

  14. Just as expected of the wintry days over there. We would love to have some of them to break the monotony of rain and the sun over here! Thanks for the wonderful comments for this year and looking forward for same in the ensuing year. Merry Christmas to you Grace!

  16. Hey Grace--Merry Christmas to you. This poem has a feel of not just winter, but of a mini-sestina or something--I know it's not, but the word repetition works really beautifully. Thanks. K.
