Queen of the night

Epiphyllum oxypetalum
Queen of the Night

in darkest of nights
my hands open to receive you-
burst forth as lightning
unfolding every jagged line bold-
you are beautifully made

when the sky is dry
her hands are water
when night is cold,
her hands are catching fire opals-
mother, thread my hands with yours

and Poetry Jam:   Hands - Trying my hand in tanka form as its been some time since I wrote one ~  Thanks for the visit ~

  1. I especially like the first one (though both are good). I like the sense of longing and admiration for the subject.

Oddly enough, I chose tanka for this prompt as well.

  10. Both of these are lovely, Grace. Love the positive expression of "You are beautifully made" which I think many of us need to ponder & take to heart.

  24. Now I want to hug my grandma. I think I will... *closing my eyes and hugging the memories of her close to my chest.*

  25. I love the second one---especially this:

    "when the sky is dry
    her hands are water"

That is stunning and deeply moving. There is no greater connection than the one between a mother and her child, even if they are separated by death.

Welcome back! Both are are wonderful but, I am leaning towards the first one as there is something about the night and the willingness to receive.
